What does baffle me though is how other clubs seem to pick up a jewel or two and we seemingly don't or aren't even in the mix. Look at the lads Arsenal signed, Mozquera (sp?). Or that Troupi kid at Bournemouth. Or Baleba at Brighton. You could pick a half dozen others. How come with the extensive scouting network we allegedly have, we don't grab these lads first? Or we're not even in the mix....

Yup hindsight always,

On paper the lads we got seemed exceptional, Kerkez, Isak Premier proven. Wirtz potentially the next big thing. Didn't know much about Ekitike and odd how he turned out the better one. Frimpong also seemed some talent. I don't know how it has gone wrong mate, it just hasn't worked for us yet. Unless it will take a change of tactics, management hmm.... but we definitely should've focused on CB, even though we did buy Leoni who does look promising "for the future".

Wouldn't be surprised if Salah is off to Saudi in Jan and replaced by Semenyo, seem to be linked to him.

I'll stick this in here because it's all rumour's and me making stuff up...

Are the stars lining up for Alonso to take charge? It's on the cards Real Madrid could very well boot Alonso in the coming days. If we lose to Brighton at the weekend would we be so ruthless as to boot Slot in favour of taking our first choice (after Klopp) manager? I'd hope not.
Just because Alonso seems to have ran out of ideas at Madrid doesn't make him a bad manager. Madrid does strange things to a man as we've seen with some of the best over time. It weighs heavy on a manager. If we got Alonso from Leverkusen era then that would be a great fit.

I wouldn't let the Madrid stint tarnish the CV for Alonso to come here.

Same thoughts have crossed my mind, however I doubt that Slott will get the boot from the hierarchy. On the other hand, depending on CL performance and and our final league position things could very well change come the end of the season .

Alonso rejected us to go to Real Madrid and he’s not doing well, why would we want him? Alonso left us as a player to play with bigger teams and he rejected us as a manager to replace Klopp. If he gets fired by Madrid would I want him? I’d rather stick with Slot.

Salah was in a taxi heading for a medical with us till he got a phone call from Mourinho. A few years later he signed and look what became of that. They all want the best opportunity available to them at the time. Right time right place and all that but not sure its quite Xavi time yet.

Slots style is dross though. Slow, predictable and can be awful to watch.

Did he actually reject us?

Antoine Semenyo's release clause at Bournemouth is only active for the first 10 days of the January transfer window - BBC.

Actually I forgot he was the player “racially abused” by a fan at Anfield, he won’t come on that alone.

Doubt he thinks the club or the majority of the fanbase is like that. It was a one off unfortunate incident that was dealt with better than a lot of clubs would have.  Maybe he just wants to go to city.

Don't think we are gonna get guehi either as he seems to think god has a plan for him :oh: definitely not about money then

Plenty of other players out there and its up to the club to address what we need. We need a CH and a DM not excuses. Go for Bastoni and Ederson (Atalanta) would be great additions to the team and set us up defensively for next season.

I wouldnt even write this season off yet if we could find ourselves a defence in this window. I don't think Arsenal or City are anything to write home about i really dont. In the 3 points for a win era a 10 point gap can be halved relatively quickly and if we could get ourselves to within 4 or 5 points of them their ar.ses would go,

Yakka, you say "In the 3 points for a win era a 10 point gap can be halved relatively quickly"
Fair enough BUT  ! surely that would very much depend on the clubs attempting to close that gap not dropping any points themselves  :suspect:
Crazy things can happen but I just don't see us going on a run that will propel us to the title.
For me it's Arsenal or City's title this season, I'm hoping it's City as i can't stand Arteta  :glare:
Best I'm hoping for , and it's far from not nailed on, is a top four finish.

Same here can't stand Arsenal, Arteta and their online fanbase. Rather City win it then them lot. They've definitely got a good side and that 4-1 win vs Villa was a good statement. However, IF this is the City that goes on mental runs then currently the gap isn't much. Arsenal need a bigger cushion. If they both do go in crazy runs then I can only see City doing it.

As for us, our league position papers over the cracks. Even in our last few wins we ain't been all that. We are weak at the back and easily get sliced open. I'd be happy with top 4 under this current set up.

Liverpool are set to seal a deal worth up to £43m for Club Brugge centre-back Joel Ordonez. The Ecuador international is poised to join Arne Slot's champions after Chelsea withdrew from the race
