What the hell is association football?

It's a game played between two teams of which have 11 players on each side. The aim of the game is to get the round ball into the back of the net. Players can pass with their feet to each other in order to get the ball into the back of the net. Which ever teams gets the ball into the net the most times wins the game.

You really are the most arrogant person on this forum, aren't you?  :D

I call that football... Or soccer if you'd like to make fun of me for being a yank.  don't know why the :censored: anybody would call it association football

I disagree.  4 goals in 21 games for a club like spurs, with wingers like Bale and Lennon who are as highly rated as they are... usually strikers score a lot for clubs like that.  4 goals in 21 games... couple missed pens as well.

15.... A good striker would score more than 1 goal in 4 games.

6 games from the bench as well.  I don't know if you know this, maybe the rules are different in association football and football... but you are allowed to score when you are subbed on.  They do allow that.

Also when looking at the games he came off the bench, he didn't come off the bench in the 87th minute very often.  I see 11th minute, 45th 52, 57.  That's still have a game.  Hell i'll give him 18 full games this season.  4 goals in 18 games.

Well hey I guess if this is a player you think is talented, then we should buy him and finish in 12th next season.  Head back into those good ol Hodgson days right?

Okay they're the stats for this season.

He wouldn't be a bad choice for a third striker in the squad.

Honestly, if you had watched English football over the years you'd know that Defoe certainly knows where the net is. In fact I said I'd have like us to sign him a few years back, he's a typical goal poacher.

But you carry on reading your stats.

Well if you want more strikers that don't score, than we can just play n'gog....  Strikers are based off stats, that's what people do.  You're saying look at him over the years.  Ok that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard... Let's look at what he did 3 years ago.  He did great then so we should buy him now eve tho he doesn't score anymore? That makes perfect sense.

And I have been watching the English League for just about as long as Defoe has been considered good.  I'm not saying he wasn't good 2 or 3 years ago... he was.  But this year he's been garbage and that's what you need to base it off of.  Not the past, the present.

I love how we are all scraping about looking for rumours and making stuff up to try and satisfy ourselves that we are after player X,Y and Z.

The reality is we don't have a fookin clue as, unlike before, all this business is being done well and truly behind the Shankly Gates at Anfield and we won't find out until the 11th hour who we are after/have signed.

AKA The Liverpool way :D

Defoe is a good player who has just had a poor season.
Not sure why, its probably a mixture of injuries and the fact that he doesnt appear first choice or wanted by his manager.
One thing is for sure though, he does know where the net is.
I would have him all day but if he isnt happy not starting games there he would more than likely be in the same position here so its a moot point.

Sense at last.  :D

He probably isn't coming anyway  but the fact remains, he's a good striker.

Form is temporary class is permanent and he certainly has a touch of class in the striker's department. I think we need a striker like him, a typical ''poacher'' or a 'fox in the box'. Then we'd have a diverse attacking options to pick from.

The days of the "poacher" type striker seem to be coming to an end... a lot more is expected of strikers in the modern game.

Nah, disagree with that. As it depends on the manager, someone like Rafa would expect more as he is a contemporary manager in today's game, yet that didn't stop him from signing Fowler. I can see a manager like Dalglish being in for said type player...

Like I said different strikers bring different things to the table. And a poacher-esq type striker would give us better/more options to pick from.

Can't see Dalglish ever turning down a Fowler like striker because most of his good work is done inside the box.
