I never have liked Defoe, He will always go on a run of 5 games scoring goals then hit a dry patch of ten games without a goal where he doesn't offer the team anything and he is greedy.

For the right price I would take him. He knows where the back of the net is and would be a good foil for Carroll.

I think Defoes best days are behind him. If he cant hold down a place in front of Crouchy then that says a lot to me. These days hes just an impact player and thats how Spurs use him. Better of buying DJ Campbell, least the lads on the up and banging in goals.

Anyone who thinks that there is £50 million cash in the bank for us to spend on players, or thinks that NESV will be dipping into to their own pockets to buy players, is way off the mark.

NESV are business people and they dipped into their pockets to buy an asset (the club). Remember that in January our net spend was zero. They will run this club like a business and money generated from match days and commercial success will be invested in the asset development and players. But they won’t be dipping into their pockets. And I don’t think they will be put any non asset development debt onto the club so they won’t borrow to buy players (like Leeds and Newcastle have done).

Unless we sell players to generate funds I can’t see our summer spending hitting the £50 million mark but money we have saved on interest payments and gained through enhanced commercial activity will go towards transfer funds and a larger wage bill and that combined with money from player sales should allow us to bring in some good players.

As much as I dont go a bundle on Defoe.. he is 10 times the player that DJ Campbell is!

He could do a job.. he is a finisher, and pacey. We do lack that type of forward. We have Suarez who is a clever, complete forward; Carroll the target man and powerhouse, and Ngog, who is none of those things.......

One thing is for certain. Kenny will not let anyone go unless there is a replacement lined up. And the replacement will add quality. This has not happened here for years.

You're right, they are a business and they do know exactly what they are doing. However, they are investors. Investors are willing to risk money now to gain more in the future, and I think we will see that. The 50 million pound figure almost seems something somebody put there so that it's easy for people to say who we should spend the money on. No doubt we will have at least 20 from players sold, but I'm sure they plan on putting some of their own money out there in order to make a proper investment.

They have invested by buying the club. In order to make money off of it, they must improve it. They have improved the club with commercial deals so far and they will further improve it with better players. In theory, the more money they spend, the more they can make in the end. If you invest $10, you don't make as much as if you invest $100 if you are making the same percentage.

I know that analogy is not the exact same thing, but I feel this is how FSG look at it.

Them being a business and good investors means that they will not splash the cash out like they did for Carroll, that won't happen again. They figured that was an investment to make sure that new players would come in the summer and maybe gain some financial benefit from Europe (Really only if we got CL). They look at their long term goals and know that the only way they can achieve them is by buying. They said so themselves that they expect to win, and I really do believe that they expect to win the title within the next few years. They are smart enough to understand that in order to do that, they must continue to invest in the club.

I agree with both ethan and CHL. But where I think CHL is off the mark is that they will not dip into their pockets. For now. I think they will dip into their pockets to get players in for the next, say, two years. After that they will be expecting LFC to be fully able to fund for itself (not to mention that it has to under the UEFA rules that are going into effect).

They've already dippedinto their pockets spending 300 million buying the club whilst putting zero debt onto the books. So more a question of how much more do they want to spend before expecting to see a return? Obviously they appreciate we need kwality players however as is widely known we are expecting a wholesale clear out this summer to raise funds and more importantly reduce the bloated wage bill.

At least with these owners, the fans can see the bigger picture and understand the strategy.

Exactly. We really don't know what they are willing to spend, but they have made it clear they plan on making money by owning this club, and they know that to do so they must buy better players and build us a freaken stadium.

That Defoe thing.. haha I didn't buy into it at all, he's freaken garbage. Took him 4/5's of the season to score his first goal.

I would take Defoe for the right money as I think he would be a good foil for either Suarez and Carroll. But, if the rumours are true that Defoe wants to leave Spurs, then I can't see Kenny going for him (as he is more looking towards youth) and Defoe wont move from London IMO. He gets a nose bleed when north of Watford!!!
