I'd personally be delighted if we managed to get the lad, especially with him being such a staunch reds fan.....Cheers for that Lee

Adam Johnson is one of those players who definitely has the talent but has never quite fulfilled his potential.  Mid twenties now.

Not enough minutes at City, not enough quality around him at Sunderland.

Could be the type of player where Rodgers could unlock the potential.

A straight swap with Borini and I'd be happy enough.

Trouble is he stropped a lot about his opportunities at City and he'd spend a fair amount of time on the bench here too I reckon.  If he can accept that he's worth a punt.

Doesn't sound that likely to me however, Borini's agent and Rodgers have both been quoted as saying Borini will be here next season.

Two words pop to mind when you think of Johnson - Stewart Downing - Massive Talent with no Mental toughness.

For once a decent post. Wouldn't touch him with a barge poll. Especially after watching downing fail the way he did who is a far better player technically and tactically

Christ sake WHERE are the promised "quality not quantity, walk into the first team" signings that Brendan was banging on about.

Although I'll admit to thinking that Lambert and Can will strengthen the squad I'm beginning to wonder if we'll actually sign someone that will SIGNIFICANTLY improve our first 11.

Early days I know BUT I don't want to see us linked to second tier players or involved in a last minute scramble trying to get someone off the top shelf .

I don't believe that any serious contenders would sign in advance of the WC to be honest no matter how hard we tried and how much money we were will to spend. Lallana is a good example and for many he's not A grade potential and he's already proving difficult. I'm happy we've made the signings we have, I am no expert and always wait and see how they bed in, but I haven't seen anyone up in arms about the signings so far and it seems like they're good solid squad fillers which is necessary for next season. It's sh1t or bust for me in this window and I'd be stunned if the funds aren't there for the resources needed. I think they've been stockpiling for a while. Until now they've hit all of their marks at the club, I can't believe that they expect to fall short now.

I think we're better than we have been. I'd feel more comfortable with what my Taffy compadre says.

Fabregas to Chelsea confirmed. Don't think we were ever realistically in for him

Not to fussed about Chelsea signing him TBH i think there midfielders are better than him same as citeh and Arsenals. Only  teams midfield i think he would have strengthened would have been United or Spurs

Makes you wonder just how "ambitious" we are.

While we're considering players like Adam Johnson Chelsea make a real statement.

Top player, not yet at his peak, years of prem and european experience under his belt.

Why the f'uck weren't we seriously in for him ?

Honestly believe we could have got him if we displayed any real intent.

I think when your competing directly for a player with the Chelsea and City's of this world, it is just getting extremely hard and I can't be too hard on our owners. FSG are a business while the owners at Chelsea/City don't blink an eyelid at some of the fee's they pay. It's not only the transfer fee and wages for the player that you have to consider, it's also the sweetener's that no doubt those two clubs pay out to agents to get the deals done. Taking all that into consideration, it becomes quite a complex and expensive deal and sadly at this stage I don't think we are able to compete, at least the majority of the time, with the Chelsea's and City's of this world. Also in this case, it seems Fabregas was keen to return to London, so was always going to be a difficult one to realistically get done
