Pre season against a bunch of no hopers who haven't tested our back line at all doesn't give me enough to feel confident about Toure.

One of Man City weak areas last season was at CB yet they allow one to leave on a free without offering a new contract - that tells the story - he wasn't good enough.

Skrtel was our player of the year two season ago when our defence was only bettered by one other club. Skrtel is a solid defender but struggled in a high defensive where he couldn't turn when balls where played over the top.

BR picking him over Skrtel and Coates doesn't mean he is good enough -it's clears that BR doesn't rate both of them.

And we arent pursing a DM to either start or back up Lucas - that is a role for Allen

We will have the same defensive issues we had last season.

So far our first 11 hasn't in my opinion been improved one single bit - in fact possibly it's weakened.

Going by this 'if he isn't good enough for Citeh' malarky, just remember their manager wasn't good enough either - he was sacked!

Also, Skertel was solid not because of the fallacious high back line you like to churn out, it was because of the system employed by the manager. Rodgers' is system is the most expansive I've seen probably since Roy Evans's side.

Coates, well we could use your Aspas argument that he was a cheap buy from a S.American team, unproven and isn't worth the time to look at. But ironically for you and your inconsistencies your willing to give Coates the benefit of the doubt but not Aspas. I don't find this odd anymore I expect these holes from you so you can start bickering and whinging at anything Rodgers & co does - even the pre-season fixture list.

I think the acquisition of Toure has been one of our more intelligent moves in this transfer window ,he looks well at home in our back four.
Over the years I have seen us have some piss poor pre-seasons and concede against some seriously dire opponents,so the fact we
have yet to concede simply reaffirms our transition under Rodgers.

Our starting 11 hasn't dramatically improved but in no way did it weakened. Toure is a better CB then Skertel the whole City argument is not relevant. So our back 4 talent wise improved although Yes I was looking for another substantial signing in that department.

I agree Lucas as our starting DM is a weak point and pauses a big risk going forward.

I think with BR it is more a matter of tactics and the system ,less about the talent he brings, personally I think we need both but you can't argue our overall performance improved dramatically compared to the previous years.

Toure is replacing Carra from our team last season - that IMO is a weaker back 4

Carra was a nightmare last season....The decision to play him didn't do him service. He deserved not to be placed in a position he can't win.

Toure is a better choice but probably not the one we should aspire to.

Carra a nightmare ??? Really - he may not have been at the top of his game but he added organisational skills that were missing last season.

I would certainly take a 35 year old Carra over a 31 year old Toure

Then you just confirmed that you are indeed a fool, Carra in my opinion, and most other sane people, probably played 1if not 2 seasons to many. What is your problem with Toure, in fact why are you so unrelentingly negative?? Maybe you need to go and see the doc and get some happy pills mate.

Then we disagree. I saw a pretty shaken ,low confidence ,long ball hoofs type of player. Carra ,in my opinion ,was placed in a position he can't succeed in. I Love Carra ,a Real LFC warrior ,was hard for me watching him struggle so much.

Are you people doing this to have a go at Benny or have you really not seen how bad Toure has been in the past few seasons? I'm not saying that there isn't a possibility of Toure surprising us in a good way, but the chances of that are really low. The last time I saw Toure having a good game was like 3 years ago! Seriously guys, Benny has a point here, if we're not going to improve our defense we're going to see the same problems we had last season. Toure is definitely not the answer for those problems. But I wouldn't worry about that too much because I believe the rumors that say we've had a deal in place for the Greek since May, we're just waiting for him to get fit enough for a medical.

Quick Translation

Diego Costa: "Go away to Liverpool? I am happy at Atletico"
The red and white expedition returned to Madrid following his tour of South America. Atletico striker made it clear that he intends to stay.
The expedition pullover and landed in Madrid and there were several players who gave their views on the South American tour. Baptistão Leo was very satisfied: "I am very happy, positive feelings. Of this tour I stay with countries we have known, the good vibes, the goals and the team's victories. "Also referred to Diego Costa Liverpool might be interested in hiring his services: "I know, here I am well , here I'm happy . Not really I have to say ... As I have been in Argentina and Uruguay have not heard anything about this. I'm happy here, if the club wants to be here, I'll be here. I think the coach has all of us here, not just me. Know how important it is to keep the group also knows people. "

i still think we`ll bring papadopolous in, we supposedly walked away from the negotiation table declaring we were no longer interested in signing him then two weeks later the echo reported we were back in for him again. seems to me that rodgers really wants him and we are just playing a game of cat and mouse with schalke trying to get the price down.

Athletico have apparently given their permission for Diego Costa to talk to the reds this week .

Toure is a nightmare as far as I'm concerned and us going with him as a starter is a big risk that imo will backfire rather quickly. Carra -despite his drop in form- has been great for this club until the day he hung his boots. e'd still get in the side like Benny said ahead of Toure and even Skrtel, and rightly so. We need a top CB not another overpriced forward or attacking midfielder with 'potential'.

Just a quick one, from Skys transfer speculation ticker...

It is also reported that Barcelona will sign a central defender when they return from their pre-season trip to Asia. Several names have been linked with a move to Camp Nou in the past but Sport writes that Daniel Agger of Liverpool is now considered to be the only realistic option.
