If Suarez submits a transfer request to join Arsenal, will there be a way for us to stop it? What other choice would we have apart from selling?

Re Lugano and Toure. Both were great players once, both past it now. The sooner we get Papadopoulos the better. You never know when Spurs might show interest in signing him. I heard they're after Eriksen now  :glare:

If he submits a TR can we not just refuse? That's what Spurs did to Modric initially didn't he?

I really don't see Costa as Suarez's replacement. He'll replace Downing who mostly played on the right hand of the attack after January and that is where Costa is meant to have played there last season at At.Madrid. I'm all for signing him as he was have too many pussies in our team. Aspas ,Costa and hopefully Papadopoulos would make us a very feared outfit just because you know you'd be entering a battlefield when playing against us.

TOTTENHAM are considering a bid for unsettled Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and Colombia international Jackson Martinez as they plan to reinvest the income from Gareth Bale’s pending transfer to Real Madrid. Andre Villas-Boas is also seeking reinforcememts in defence and on the wing to mitigate the world-record sale.

Tottenham’s manager has taken a pragmatic stance following Madrid’s proposal to meet his chairman’s £87m asking price for the Wales international. In addition to the purchase of Spain centre-forward Roberto Soldado, he has asked for a second international-class finisher.

With Liverpool refusing to honour a £40m clause in Suarez’s contract by permitting him to talk to Arsenal, the Uruguayan is likely to prove beyond Tottenham’s reach. The White Hart Lane club are not in a position to offer the Champions League football Suarez has cited as a reason for quitting Anfield, and Madrid are also interested.

Lazy journalism. Spurs get money from selling Bale and the papers will start linking them with everyone. Utter nonsense

QPR manager Harry Redknapp has told Luis Suarez to turn down a "sideways" move to Arsenal.

The former Spurs boss has found himself backing Brendan Rodgers' stance on the player, and thinks that the Uruguayan forward needs to repay his debt to the club that stuck by him in more difficult times.

"It's time for him to realise he owes Liverpool," Redknapp says in his  Sunday column.

"He owes the fans who have stuck by him, he owes manager Rodgers for doing likewise... everyone inside the place really. They've backed him to the hilt."

Arsenal's long-running and public interest in the player has riled Anfield figures, but moving to the Emirates for Champions League football would be a foolish decision reckons Redknapp.

"Suarez insists he wants to go for Champions League football and, if that was Real Madrid, Barcelona, or maybe Bayern Munich, perhaps you would think 'fair enough'.

"OK, he would get a few games in the competiton he is desperate to play in. But I just don't see Arsenal as a side that can genuinely win it."

It's going to get worse in the upcoming weeks - Spurs will look to replace Bale ( if he goes ) and it wouldn't surprise me to see them bidding big for a striker - Suarez could be one but expect it to be Diamo

Liverpool have poured scorn on Arsenal's £40m bid for Luis Suárez, claiming it was ridiculous when compared with the £86m Real Madrid are prepared to pay for Gareth Bale.

Brendan Rodgers insisted that he wanted to keep his transfer-seeking Uruguay striker, who was given a standing ovation by the Anfield crowd when he appeared as a second-half substitute in Steven Gerrard's testimonial match against Olympiakos.

Rodgers said that Suárez had viewed his introduction from the bench with "a wee bit of trepidation", only to be "humbled" by the warmth of his reception. "That just showed you the class of the Liverpool supporters", the manager said. "That was a message from them, that they love him here. We all love him – the players the manager and the fans, and Luis is still very much part of what we are doing."

Of Arsenal's interest, which has had Suarez's advisers talking of possible legal action to engineer a move, Rodgers said: "Look at the market. Gareth Bale and Luis Suárez were the best two players in the Premier League last season, and you can't say Bale is worth 100% more.

"There are lots of stories, lots of speculation about Luis, but there's no change in the situation. Of all the clubs he has been linked with, we've had two bids from one club [Arsenal] and they were nowhere near our valuation. Unless something dramatic happens it's very simple. We don't want to sell him."

By way of a rider, Rodgers added that every player had his price, and that Liverpool would do business with any buyer matching the fee they had in mind, which is believed to be £60m. Suárez is banned for the first six matches of the season, completing the suspension imposed for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in April, and for all the managerial protestations to the contrary, the smart money is still on Suárez going and the arrival of Diego Costa, from Atlético Madrid, to replace him.

"Humbled" Uruguay's finest may have been on Saturday, but if he was it was long overdue. Suárez is to loyalty what Eamonn Holmes is to hang-gliding and it beggared belief to hear Liverpool fans cheer him to the echo when he went on for Iago Aspas, the £7.2m summer signing from Celta Vigo, after 62 minutes. This is a man who has been sticking two fingers up at the Kop, metaphorically speaking, all summer, yet he even got a round of applause for one of his trademark visits to the turf.

By way of contrast, if there is a Premier League player more deserving of a testimonial than Gerrard his name does not spring readily to mind. The England midfielder has served his home town club with inspirational distinction for nigh on 15 years, since his debut in November 1998, amassing 440 appearances and 98 goals. His love affair with Liverpool goes back even further, to the Championship-winning era, when he joined the academy, aged nine.

In these mercenary times Gerrard is possibly the last of a vanishing breed, the one-club man, and it is not without irony that he is spending much of his time trying to persuade Suárez, the antithesis of loyalty, to stay.

Liverpool won their glorified friendly 2-0, with goals from Joe Allen and the substitute Jordan Henderson, but the loudest cheer was for neither goal, nor for Gerrard or Suárez. It greeted possibly the last appearance in a Liverpool shirt of Robbie Fowler, Gerrard's old pal, who replaced Raheem Sterling after 74 minutes. The old poacher is carrying some extra avoirdupois these days but still came close to scoring at the Kop end.

Olympiakos, to their credit, provided their services free of charge (no need to beware these Greeks bearing gifts), enabling Gerrard to pass on the thick end of £1m to his charitable foundation that benefits under-privileged children.

Paying tribute to his captain, Rodgers said: "It shows you the type of person Steve is that it was his day, yet he wanted it to be about everyone bar him. He wanted it to be a big part of our pre-season preparation. It was a great opportunity for the supporters to come and pay homage to an iconic player for this club. He's 33 but for me he's still got a number of years left yet. I speak to him on a daily basis and he's hungry for the club to do well. He's a real talisman and a real gentleman, too. A wonderful man."

Anfield played a blinder yesterday - certainly gave Suarez food for thought. Had the reception been full of jeers I could have definitely seen a transfer request handed in.

Liverpool Transfer News: Aly Cissokho Agrees Anfield Terms
August 4, 2013 Joseph Dempsey Sport no comments 11 views

Liverpool look to have beaten rivals Sunderland to the signature of Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho, with the player agreeing terms at Anfield, according to the Shields Gazette.

The Black Cats made an enquiry for Cissokho last month with manager Paolo Di Canio left frustrated in his attempts to bring in a new fullback at the Stadium of Light after Spurs blocked their attempts to re-loan Danny Rose.

Rose enjoyed a successful season during his short stint on Wearside in the 2012/13 campaign but the North East club have been forced into looking elsewhere for a left-back.

And their search for a new defender could continue with news that Liverpool have agreed terms with Cissokho.

Reports in Spain yesterday claimed the Valencia star has agreed on a move to Anfield, having been linked with the move for much of the summer.

Sissokho would become Liverpool’s fifth summer signing following the acquisitions of Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas.

Liverpool’s interest in the Frenchman comes as they missed out on Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand, who has decided to stay at Stamford Bridge and try to establish himself as Ashley Cole’s long-term replacement.

According to the reports in Spain, Sissokho will move to Merseyside on a one-year loan deal with the option of making the transfer permanent in 12 months’ time.

Someone already edited the Wikipedia page lol...

Aly Cissokho (French pronunciation: [ali sisɔko], born 15 September 1987) is a French footballer who plays for Premier League club Liverpool, on loan from Valencia CF. He plays as a left defender and has been described as a "sprightly left-back with good speed and stamina".[1]
