David Silva is a great player, but he doesn´t worth 20 millions. maybe 10-15.

£20m Silva ready to sparkle at Liverpool as debt-ridden Valencia look to sell

Liverpool have emerged as favourites to land £20m-rated Spain midfielder David Silva after Valencia indicated they would prefer to sell him abroad.

Liverpool's chief scout Eduardo Macia held talks with Valencia recently to discuss potential offers for Silva, David Villa and Raul Albiol.

Debt-ridden Valencia made it clear they had to sell and were open to deals including Liverpool squad players.

Anfield boss Rafa Benitez will only move if the price is right and has other big-name targets in mind should Valencia ask too much.

Meanwhile, Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks is looking to sell part of his stakes in Major League Baseball team Texas Rangers and ice hockey side Dallas Stars.

from the official

RAFA: WE WILL NOT BE SIGNING SILVA
Paul Eaton 27 March 2009
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has today ruled out a summer swoop for Valencia midfielder David Silva.
Speculation has been growing that the 23-year-old Spaniard is Benitez's top target at the end of the season, but the manager today insisted Silva will not be Anfield bound.

Asked whether there was any truth in the newspaper reports, Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We will not be signing him."

Despite ruling an approach for Silva out of his summer plans, the boss insisted work is gathering pace behind the scenes to identify targets ahead of next season.

"We are working hard, talking with the scouting department and looking at names and options for next season," he added.

"It's still too soon, but we are working hard."

While beginning to formulate his plans for the new campaign, Benitez is well aware of what could still lie ahead this term - and of the sense of excitement among Liverpool supporters after the gap at the top of the table was closed to just one point.

"Football can change very quickly and that is why we say it is important to just take one game at a time," he added.

"Everything can change each week and maybe next week we can be at the top again. My message to the fans is to keep calm. I can see the people have a lot of confidence at the moment and that is good. We have to stay positive and see what happens."

Don't rate di maria , playing in a cra.p league , he'd surely stand out .

that cr@p league surely hurt Ronaldo's development ???

Plus Di Maria has stood out at the international stage

THat being said he is quite small, and there are probably more talented attacking wingers we could be after. Like Kuba, Guardado, Capel, Mata, Arda Turan, Luis Suarez, Christian Rodriguez, even Ben Arfa and Menez (who have been mostly dissapointing) might be better shouts. And then there are the obviously better ones like Maxi Rogriguez and Silva.

But then again, price has a LOT to do with it

 , ronaldo wasn't that good when he first came , he's that good now because of fergie and the english league . Anderson is another one who was doing well in porto and so was nani , neither have adapted as of yet and its coming to 2 seasons already .

Yes Di maria has been impressive at the olympics , but personally i think he's too lightweight for the premier league .

As for owen , i'd take him back in a heartbeat , still one of the most potent and he hasn't lost all of his pace , he's still very quick and deadly .

Ace i respect your opinions about hypia but don't you think there will be times where teams will manage to break thorough our midfield and he will be outpaced , it has happened a couple of times already and i can't understand how'd you take him as our first choice center back given his age

Could be a smokescreen or it might not be. At the end of the day you have to look at the circumstances.

Valencia need to sell to lower their debt. Which means they will want to sell for as much as possible. Should a bidding ware ensue I do not think we would come out on top. However he could work the situation like Morientes or Torres whereby he only agrees to negotiate with us hence forcing Valencia to sell to us.

But I also seem to remember Rafa making similar denials with either Luis Garcia or Alonso before they signed.

53 games in 3 years? And he would probably want between 50 - 75k a week. No thanks. Owen is finished.

On a bosman and we're not exactly paying any money on a transfer so i don't think we would mind paying him around that region and i'm sure owen will take a pay cut to come back to us .

Maybe but that remains to be seen. If he didn't have the character to put us ahead of England in the past I don't see him doing it now. He would have to maybe come on a pay as you play deal for a year and then once he has earned Rafas trust give him a contract. He :censored: on Rafa twice before so I would be amazed to see him back at the club.
