BBC are reporting that Spurs are close to agreeing a 10.7 million deal for this guy. For those that don't know him he is a Bulgarian international, 2nd top scorer in Germany the Bundesliga this season with 20 goals.

Personally I really rate this guy. Good with his back to goal, not blistering pace but certainly quick enough and a good finisher. I believe he'd be the right sort of player to play off Crouch and would fit into our system well. I'd hate for him to go to Spurs and while we haven't officially been linked with him, surely Benitez must be watching developments here.

In my opinion this guy's better than Kuyt, Defoe and pretty much any other striker we've been realistically linked with.

Agreed John, when i watched him last year against us at anfield, he was a big threat.

He has a good finisher, would love to have him but spurs got him.

I seem to remember us actually being linked with him before. There was a thread on here. It may have been christmas, or even last summer.

spurs have done a good bit of business there. berbatov for 10.7... then they'll sell defoe for 10.

berbatov is way better than defoe, and they only paid 0.7 for the privillage!

I would take Defoe before Berbatov! I think Defoe is quality. Not doubting that Berbatov isn't class but a young homegrown talent will give us more I reckon.

I agree with Jim, would rather have Defoe then Berbatov, Berbatov is a very good striker but is unproved at Premier League level while Defoe has shown he is a very good player at Premiership Level

I remember when I first saw him in 2002 I think, I wasn’t overly impressed.

But having watched him a bit over the past 2 seasons he looks much improved and a very “Rafa style” striker. He is excellent with back to goal, is very efficient with his shots, is a good passer, good awareness, is tall and above all is a goal scorer. The only thing I would question is the aggression factor, how aggressive is he? Can he battle with tough centre half’s who want to bully him?

But he is defiantly worth having a closer look at, the price isn’t as unreasonable as it sounds. I would hope that Rafa has had a look and considered him because he is a good player, but it looks like Rafa wasn’t interested or wasn’t willing to pay that price.
