Benitez atletico meeting for forlan - Possible target

Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Normally I include the rumours in the big thread, but this may be more than a rumour. It's a full article describing a meeting between Benitez and Gil Marin the atletico chairman.

It was in Madrid in March the 11th.

In that same meeting Atletico offered the job to Benitez, which he politely declined (obviously).

Benitez showed interest for Forlan, the Atletico striker. Atletico answered that they don't plan to sell players but didn't say it's impossible to sell, especially if Rafa includes Rafa reds players in the operation. Arbeloa Reina and Alonso would be the targets of Atletico, and Arbeloa could easily enter the operation.

Normally I think most of articles are speculations but this one seems to be more than that so I write a thread so that you're aware.

I know he didn't triumph in Manchester but I think he's the kind of player I'd feel safe with if Torres wasn't around. Interesting signing IMHO.

I'd preffer Villa, but perhaps players like Villa or Aguero are a bit out of reach in terms of millions?

Considering that we made no signings in January I'm not so sure we'll have a lot of cash in summer. At least we can expect to have the money of selling Keane available, but in order to reach what we'd need for Aguero or Villa we should put on the table much more than 20M. :(

I wouldnt right of Forlan that easily - he struggled to score his first goal at the mancs but when he did he started to play very well and score quite regulary but then was sold - even mancs think he should og been give more time as he proved when he went to villereal and scored for fun and then to atletico and carried of scoring and looked dangerous when we played them this seson

Who knows who he may have been discussing Simao, Maxi or even Aguero.

I'd take Maxi and and Aguero, probably Simao at right price

20 would get you Tevez give Valencia Babel & Lucas for Silva. Or sell them to fund him.

Forlan is pretty good at Atletico.

Could be like the Riera situation, where a player didn't impress much in Manchester, then goes back to Spain, gets better and comes to Liverpool :D
