The Premiership - General Discussion

very funny, they even put out a strong team, in fact a very strong team and still got beat by southend.

congratulations to southend, but it does go to show the risks of fielding an understrength team in this competition, even full strength teams can be overcome by a determined and spirited little fish.

i know this trophy is looked down upon by some, but its still a trophy that has to be earned, you have to work your way there.

anyway lets hope our understrength team doesnt come a cropper tonight, i think there will be many changes to the team but i think we should still be strong enough to beat birmingham, but then again nothings certain

actually i just saw these coments from ferguson, i know he can be a t1t sometimes but maureen can learn a lot from him, there is not one ounce of bitterness shown in this defeat, anyway here are his comments

"We need to look forward, not back," said Ferguson.

"It was a disappointing night but there is no need for a knee-jerk reaction, no mass sackings and no suicides.

"Maybe there will be a little bit of recrimination and maybe a few of my players will be embarrassed by the result but they have to pick themselves up, that is the name of the game at this football club."

"We've lost three matches all season and all by 1-0. Cup football can smack you in the face and I'm not impervious to that. We started off slack, which can sometimes happen in a cup tie. But Southend were fantastic and their goalkeeper was magnificent. At the end they closed it down and made it difficult for us.

"In a way, it is great for me because I know tomorrow we can pull our togs on and start working again. There is no harm in defeat providing it improves you and you can learn from it. I am sure we will get slaughtered for this defeat but there is no need for any knee-jerk reaction. Maybe a few of my players will be a little bit embarrassed because it is a disappointing result."

I was made up that the Mancs lost, I never usually watch their highlights on tv but I made sure I watched them last night  . I just hope this is the beginning of a run of defeats for the Mancs. I want to see if Fergie can be as magnanimous when they get knocked out of Europe by Benfica again.

in a way it is better for us that these big sides stay in the cups as long as possible for obvious reasons of fatigue/injuries etc. not least the fact that its much more satisfying beating one of them in the final itself, rather than the likes of Boro or Wigan or Bolton...(no offence but, nothing to get excited over either)

that said i was chuffed to see fergusons big anniversary love-in get ruined...

credit to Southend as well, they made it very awkward. Freddy Eastwood eh...(bright future)  :nod

Fergie said he didn't care about winning the Littlewoods Cup because he shops at Argos.

Fergie's arrogance against Copenhagen was his biggest mistake.

Had they put a strong team out to beat those guys, they wouldn't be needing a win against a very tricky Benfica.

I hope they lose to Chelsea too.

I don't like Chelsea or Man Utd, and while the prospect of Chelsea winning the title makes me sick, the prospect of Man Utd winning the title makes me suicidal.

Manhattan's Pointless Observation Of The Day

"Manchester United very rarely get to wear their classic red shirt-white shorts-black socks combo".
