Ferguson assaulted - Attacked on the train

The Premiership - General Discussion

A 'fighting drunk' has pleaded guilty to assaulting Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson at City of London Magistrates Court.

Kevin Reynolds, 43, admitted punching the Scottish tactician in the groin and head butting a police community support officer.

The attack took place on Monday shortly after 4pm, when Sir Alex was waiting for his driver outside Euston Station in central London.

Ferguson, who was in London to attend a function, initially thought the man wanted money, before being struck, in an attack that left him doubled up in pain.

The court was told on Wednesday that Reynolds said "I'm sorry Fergie. I did not know it was you," following the attack.

Reynolds' defence counsel, Adeola Olowu, claimed her client did not think it was Sir Alex and had accidentally struck him, jokingly, while shadow boxing.

However, sitting magistrate Daphne Wickham said: "I do not think Sir Alex Ferguson saw this as a joke."

She later went on to describe Reynolds as being a 'fighting drunk'.

Reynolds, who pleaded guilty to two counts of racially-aggravated public order, one common assault and one count of actual bodily harm, has been warned he could be jailed upon sentencing at a later date.

Arsene Wenger was also on the train but he claimed "I didnt see anything"

José Mourinho who was also on the train would only say "I can confirm that none of my players were involved, but I did see a Spanish looking bloke running away, he discarded a fake goatee beard in a nearby bin as he ran past "

Apparently he timed the whole incident on both watches and has sinced asked the FA if he can have them as minutes added on when UTD are drawing against a shi.te team!

As usual the FA have told refs to do what Alex says!

Perhaps that's why fergie got off so lightly!

sorry to bring this up again... but this is the latest update

taken from soccernet:

A drunken thug who punched Sir Alex Ferguson in the groin was jailed for 15 months on Thursday.

Homeless Kevin Reynolds, branded by the judge a 'significant risk to the public', spotted the Manchester United manager outside a train station, staggered towards him and delivered a single blow.

His 'stunned' victim promptly doubled up in agony and, as he fought for breath, managed to gasp 'What the hell are you doing?'.

The 44-year-old beggar - whose criminal record boasts a total of 146 convictions including many for violence, during nearly a quarter of a century of drink-driven offending - promptly insisted: 'I'm sorry Fergie, I didn't realise it was you.'

But almost immediately afterwards he held out his arms and started shouting: 'Fergie, Fergie, shut your mouth.'

Peter Zinner, prosecuting, told London's Southwark Crown Court: 'Your honour may know it is a chant that is used by football supporters in Scotland, or is something heard at matches involving Manchester United when Sir Alex gets excited.'

The barrister said the club manager was left standing there in both considerable pain and 'somewhat bemused amazement'.

This is hilarious... :D

At sentencing a board was held up showing six months and after fergie had a word it changed to fifteen.

Although I have heard the fifteen months was for headbutting a community support/police officer and they let him off assaulting fergie altogether!

EDIT : seriously though, I heard someone talking about child molesters getting two years so this shows how much of a joke our legal system is. I would have given him a heavy fine, community service and/or a very short custodial sentence. You can't condone what he did, regardless who it was against, but jail should be reserved for serious offences and I doubt either victim suffered long term injuries
