The Premiership - General Discussion

Saying on the radio this morning that reports from France suggest Zidane isn't interested in the United job. To be fair he's never played or managed in this country and I don't even think he can speak English. Apparently his wife doesn't want to live in the UK either. Rodgers now the bookies favourite.

How you reckon Poch would do mate if his given the role?

I think he would work really well there. If he spends well and buys the right players, instilling his philosophy, be interesting how far he could take them.

Probably the worst news I've heard in a while lol. Oh well, they had to smart up and sack him eventually, it was nice while it lasted. Glad at least they're too late to get Conte, not too many good ones available now. Hopefully they'll sign someone equally inept as Ole again.

United is a poisoned chalice, it's a 5+ year job and no top manager would have the energy to change the board room issues whilst transforming the team. If Poch comes, he'll be subservient as he was with Levy at Spurs which will make him a temporary appointment. Let's hope...

I'm not so sure Reg, there's a lot of good players there (Ronaldo, Fernandez, Pogba, Varane, Sancho, Cavani etc etc) and i fear it won't take a half decent manager long to get a tune out of them. A top CB to partner Varane and top DM and they'd be a serious proposition imo.

United getting that draw has halved the gap between us and Chelsea to 2 points.

I lot of good players and a lot of big egos, whereas Chelsea, City and us have teams ManUre seen more a bunch of individuals all with a self centered agenda (well the older players anyway). Their owners seem reactive rather than following a thought out plan other than fleecing the club and keeping the fans quite while they do it. That 4-1 loss to Watford was a flattering result in that Watford scored two at the end of the match, could easily have been a 2-1 loss and would they have sacked Ole? I’m not sure they would have. Instead, they paid Ole about 7million, paid Moscow 8 million for an “interim manager” that has never taken his philosophy to a big club with established players, he’s all about recruiting young players to learn his system. From what I’ve read he is a maverick that has a huge personality and falls out with people regularly, not a mainstream manager at all. Him and Fergie should get on well   and if he’s so good, why hasn’t  a big club ever hired him?

They got an interim manager (63 years old) that is the king of pressing going to a team that runs the least, not sure how that will work out. He will not transform them into a pressing team with the personnel they have, so what can he do in half a season other than Maureen style parking the bus and counterattack, in which case, what was the point of him. Pressing teams have pressing players, you’ll never get Pogba and Ronaldo to press all match and for pressing to work, the WHOLE team has to be on the same page. Once one or two don’t press they will become exposed and ripe for a counterattack.

As a Liverpool supporter I’m so happy they have those owners.

As you say mate unless this new fella is prepared to put some high profile noses out of joint he is going to have to abandon his preferred pressing game, I'll be surprised if he doesn't improve them though pressing game or no pressing game.

No doubt he will, I noticed that they have a run of easy fixtures that will probably have the press talking about him as the second coming.

You sense that was a big win for Rafa yesterday and not just on the pitch, Brands departure and the board announcing that they are giving Rafa full control suggests there has been a power struggle behind the scene's.

Watching the City - Wolves game, I've seen everything BUT football in that game so far. Wolves using the same horrible tactics they used against us of stopping play in every possible way they can, even worse actually. Wouldn't have written them off to take points off City had Jimenez not been a moron and got himself two yellow cards in less then a minute. Still 0-0 but I expect City to win now considering Wolves are with a man less, unless they can sabotage the second half like they did in the first when hardly any football was played.

It's anti football.  Don't get me wrong it's admirable that the lesser lights in this country don't just roll over when one of the big boys roll into town but like it or not football (and sport in general) is a branch of the entertainment business, if every club adopted Wolves's tactics stadiums would soon be empty, people are not going to spend thousands of pounds and travel up and down the country to watch that week in and week out
You don't expect every team to play like the Dutch team of the mid 70's but you do expect them to play football of some description, even if it's hoof ball, Wolves seem to just want to run the clock down and play as little football as possible.
