Anyone know what his current contract status is? Is how many years does he have left? I hope he is given a proper senior contract in the summer, especially if we manage to offload dossena.

100% agree Bav, good comment.

Considering he has been cast back into the spotlight by some poor performances, he really needs to get it together. He is good enough but needs to concentrate more. I still prefer Aurelio at LB for the moment as his defensive superiority is sorely missed imo.

He needs to concentrate more which is what makes him not good enough

We let Warnock go and I hate that for the mere fact we've not had a LB who can defend for many a year. Wasn't it Aurelio's injury that saw Riise come on to concede the shocking og of the millenium in the CL? (semi?)

I would much rather see Agger moved to left back in place of Insua rather than having to rely on Dossena. I thin he will be gone in January and probably not very sorely missed.

the lad still gives me kittens defensively, moreso than johnson who the media would have you believe "can't defend". i'd be genuinely worried about valencia running at him all game, especially if babel plays as he doesn't track back.

Agreed, I don't think he is up to it to be honest. He might improve his defencive side of the game by gaining some experience once he matures and becomes a really solid player for us, but doesn't look like a top player for me.

could be another Riise in a year or 2

personally i would have prefered to see Insua loaned out for a year or two with another premier league team. That way we wouldn't be taking any risk in giving him expereince..sadly that isn't possible because we would be short at left back and we havent the funds (6-9 million) to buy a solid replacement.

majority of the posts here seems to see the positives in Insua... agreed that he's young and can still improve... but to which extent...??? his potential shows me that he can never be a world-class left-back at all... what our squad needs are potential world-beaters and not just a good player...

comparing the young left-backs that Arsenal had churned out in the past, Insua will never make it into their senior squad... that's the gulf of difference between our youth system and Arsenal's at the current moment... :;):

Well, Insua is actually pretty good but he lacks 3 very important things, pace, positioning sense and good marking ability. This makes him a perfect target as he gets too easily turned and is found out too many times at back post plays.

When Insua first broke into the team he was the next Paulo Maldini. All it took was an occasional well timed tackle and a successful foray into enemy territory, and he was the leading light of the new academy. He was to be the first of the next generation of youngsters who were going to come through and sweep us to glory.

Now, a season or so on and he's not good enough, paceless and clueless. As is often the case on here, the truth is in between IMHO.

Firstly the good bits. He's got a good left foot, knocks a fairly decent ball in and is tenacious in the tackle. I actually don't agree with those who say his positioning is dodgy, I think it's decent for a young full back his age. He has a good attitude and enthusiasm for the game, and like all fellas his age looks like he could play every day.

Negatives? Well he's no Carl Lewis that's for sure, but many a good fullback before him haven't been flying machines either. He's knee high to a grass hopper which means he can be targeted by the high ball, and he does just occasionally ball watch. The last one of those can be ironed out I think, and if that happens Insua will become a decent Premiership fullback. No Ashley Cole or Evra in his career I shouldn't think, but decent all the same. Good enough for a team which aspires to win things? (assuming we still do) Probably not but decent all the same.

Not good enough for me...
Sure he could develop into a decent enough fullback in time but as things stand, i dont think hes good enough to be starting week in week out for Liverpool...
With Glen Johnson playing rightback, we will always be vulnerable down the right side when playing decent left wingers.. Lets be honest here, it doesnt take much to get the wrong side of Johnson and put a cross in and with Insua playing left back, i feel that leaves us that little bit more exposed especially on the break...
I dont think he has terrible defensive awareness (Insua that is), but it seems questionable at best..  Going forward he's not that bad but defensively i feel we could and should do better...
Aurelio ahead of Insua every day of the week for me..

Aurelio can't be relied on to be first choice when he start stay fit for more than 5 minutes.

Left back has to be a priority for me come the summer. Who do we get in? I really don't know. The more I see him, the more I regret that we didn't get Gareth Bale. Has been brilliant in recent weeks.

how much did we pay for him?  If anything, we could probably sell him for a tidy profit to a spanish club.

should we have sold dossena? it'd be interesting to know how rafa decides which players he's going to give all the time in the world to (because they work hard) and who he's not going to (because they don't work as hard, regardless of the fact they're much better footballers)
we've only won it 5 times

I think we still need Aurelio. Id be more than happy to keep Insua as back up left back because he is young and still developing but he's got a long way to go and we cant afford to carry him.
