Rafas probally told him to curb his attacking instincts for awhile & concentrate on his defensive play as that was his major flaw last season & to be air to the lad hes taking the responsibility which bodes well for the future (take note Babel)

People questioning his ability to get past men & deliver a good cross is laughable maybe theyve been watching another insua im not aware of

Hopefully in the coming years hell cement his position in the team for a long time

yeah that ↑

that very fact that Zapata has come straight from the reserves and has managed to not look out of place  in the PL suggest he's a bit special, not many do that

i also like insua alot an disagree that even if Aurelio is fit i'd still pick insua for the first team untill Raffa has a major reason to drop him. for me the lad has done nothing but show a right attitude,an as a result i think keep him in the first team an let Aurelio fight for his place!

this is for me the classic case where a player is given a chance in the first team because of injury etc an has been shown conifdence also by the manager etc to prove their potential. i think it's great Raffa has shown belief in insua by giving him a consistant run in the team however it's come about, & think it would only dent the players confidence, attitude etc to just drop him for the sake of it.

competition for places under our currant financial situation, can only be a massive show of character on our players part an insua for me is playing his part in showing that desire to make it hard for the likes of Aurelio.  he needs to fight for his place, which is the way it should be always.

Why would Rafa buy a RB who is naturally attacking and not known for his solid defending, then tell Insua to curb his attacking instinct? He may have done, but I'd find it odd to have one principle for one side when more assists/goals come from the right and did last season. Kuyt had a fantastic season, Riera played well but didn't have nearly as much end product yet we've bought an attacking RB and now people are suggesting the LB is told to curb his attacking instinct ?!?!?!

For someone who sticks with zonal marking, and doesn't make changes before 66 minutes very often, I guess I should expect the unexpected/unbelievable/insane/whatever

I would pick purely on the basis of who is best for the position, even if taking into account the game, how important it is, what the threats of the opposition are etc.

Blind loyalty is 'admirable' in one sense, but could prove costly. Can you put your hand on your heart and say that you'll say exactly the same thing when Aquilani becomes available, that if Lucas "has done nothing but show a right attitude" then you would keep Lucas in the side..............................?!?!

I'm with Stmichael on this one, it's important we win today and I'd go with our strongest available XI. No time for experimentation. And of course Aurelio is a free-kick option, more experienced and if he wasn't still better then I think few would disagree. If those three reasons aren't enough, added to the need to win, then what are?

Very good read as I think Insua had been very quietly effective and seems more confident going forward. Being so young means hopefully our left back position is set and he should improve even more as times goes by.

IMO he has the potential to become our most "complete" fullback..

- He is a good defender foremost
- Strong as a bull
- Has premierleague pace
- Can put in a good cross
- Is contributing more and more to our attack (you saw his interception and pass to Torres for the 1st goal against the hammers ?)

He is still improving.....but he will be a very good player for us.

cost about 100k

...so our 3 FBs this season, johnson, insua and aurelio cost about 18mill between them ...not bad    :lookaround

his crossing of late has been very poor - esp in cl and his defending being a bit dodgy .

Nah he has been great this season, one of our top players. The only bad game he had was against Debrecini.

Against West Ham he was brilliant, he showed a lot of strength for a young lad to cope with a pretty physical team.

He has only played one champ league match and you are judging his performance this season on that ?

Most of the players who played were horrible against the Hungarian team.....   :glare:

i said esp in the cl match - other matches this season his crossing has been poor - failing to beat the first man on many occasions.
