hes an example of why buying all these youth players is great buisness if just 1 in 20 make it into the first team its saved us having to go out and spend millions
now we have a good young left back who has the potential to go on and be great for the next 10years

Insua has been great so far, and now all we need to do is see Kelly step it up which i think he will do and sell Degen and Dossena. Then we can spend of what little money we have got from both players and spend it in other areas.

Insua is great I don't care if his form drops or whatever he's still doing some great things at the tender age of 20.

If only we had maybe brought him into the 1st team quicker we could have saved a few bob by not buying Dossena.

Be interesting to see who starts at left back on Saturday. I thought Aurelio was top class against Leeds. Man have we missed his set piece delivery.

Wasn't the idea of Dross and Degen that they were attacking wing-back style players with little regard for defence?

Maybe we could have brought Insua into the team (a little bit) earlier, but perhaps we would have still brought someone in as cover for Aurelio. Didn't some on here express reservations about selling Dross when Aurelio got injured?(playing footy with his kids?)

Let's not elevate Insua into cult status just yet, he may have done well at times so far, but that is far from making him the best LB around - despite someone's attempt to prove by absence of other 20 year old LBs of any quality

You have to look past saturday, play Insua against Hull, and midweek CL then save Fabio for the Chelsea game? Or.. ?

signed him on loan. Loan was made permanent went we sent Paletta the other way.

Paletta cost us 2 million, but by the time we sold him is value was pretty close to zero. (although he isn't doing that bad at Boca)

Am not having that, Paletta cost 2 million and we swapped him for Insua.
That in no way means that we got Insua for free.

equally, it in no way means we got him for 2 million.

What do you think Paletta was worth after his first season?

Maybe 1.5 million like i said we got Insua for  :D

Certainly not free like some are indicating.
At the end of the day he was poor but still highly rated in south america and by the Argentinian national youth teams etc.

Can be quite difficult to get exact fees, too often I see 'nominal fee' or 'signed' where I want to see a figure.

All it says on wikipedia is "His loan deal was made permanent in August 2007 in the deal which saw Gabriel Paletta moved to Boca Juniors ". I associate Paletta with a cost of £2m.

Struggling Argentina called up Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain and Liverpool left back Emiliano Insua for the first time for next month's decisive World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay.

Coach Diego Maradona, who named 18 players, also recalled midfielder Pablo Aimar and Angel Di Maria, team mates at Benfica, and Luis Gonzalez of Olympique Marseille.

French-born Higuain (pictured), who has turned down the chance to play for France, has been rewarded for his patience in waiting for this call and his good form in La Liga. He could earn a starting place up front alongside Lionel Messi.

Argentina must beat Peru at home on October 10 and Uruguay in Montevideo four days later to be sure of progressing to next year's finals in South Africa.

A revamped squad includes winger Di Maria who has served a four-match suspension following his dismissal in Argentina's 6-1 drubbing by Bolivia in La Paz in April and playmaker Aimar, who was last in the squad at the 2007 Copa America.

Maradona has also recalled Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta and Newcastle United midfielder Jonas Gutierrez, who has recovered from injury after missing the defeats by Brazil and Paraguay earlier this month that left Argentina in danger of failing to reach the finals for the first time since 1970.

He has dropped Inter Milan defender Javier Zanetti, Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago and Olympique Lyon striker Lisandro Lopez from the squad.

Argentina are fifth in the 10-nation South American group from which the top four qualify. The team finishing fifth will play off against the fourth-placed side from the CONCACAF region.

A victory over a weak Peru side who are bottom of the group would send Argentina, who have lost their last three qualifiers, into a potential decider away to the Uruguayans.

Brazil, who have 33 points from 16 matches, and Paraguay with 30 points have qualified. Chile are third on 27.

In a tight race for the fourth spot and the playoff berth, fourth-placed Ecuador have 23 points, Argentina are on 22, Uruguay and Venezuela 21 and Colombia 20.

Bolivia (12) and Peru (10) are out of the reckoning.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (AZ Alkmaar), Mariano Andujar (Catania)

Defenders: Emiliano Insua (Liverpool), Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle United), Gabriel Heinze (Olympique Marseille), Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City), Nicolas Pareja (Espanyol)

Midfielders: Javier Mascherano (Liverpool), Luis Gonzalez (Olympique Marseille), Jonas Gutierrez (Newcastle United), Angel Di Maria, Pablo Aimar (both Benfica)

Forwards: Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid), Carlos Tevez (Manchester City), Gonzalo Higuain (Real Madrid), Diego Milito (Inter Milan), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli)

The defenders in that squad are woeful.

Great for Insua that he has been called up but its not exactly an ideal time for him to come in is it.
