He should remain in the team on merit and to tackle Kevin Davies at the weekend.

When Agger and then Johnson return, the defensive situation can be re-evaluated.

If he had an EPL reputation he would be a lock, but since he's Greek, he's just a plugin until your big leaguers come back. Ridiculous mentality. This guy is your defensive MVP in his first opportunity with the team and he's gonna yet dropped when Daniel Agger returns? Who the hell is Daniel Agger? Kyrgiakos with carra/Agger unless he bombs out, and I'm not talking about 1 bad half.

I agree with your sentiments regarding why he should be dropped if others came back from fitness. But lets not forget about the bloke who picks the team, he has a tendancy to 'drop' players who are in form and bring someone else in. Gerrard coming in for Aquilani is the latest prime example. Gerrard for Lucas maybe, but not for the Italian after he looked as though he was building momentum and match fitness.

Personally though mate I don't think Rafa would see it as him 'being Greek' and not a household name. Granted many fans on these boards are like that, but I highly doubt Rafa is like that. But yes because we paid 1.5M and the fact he's Greek and not Italian, Spanish, French or Dutch hinders posters perspectives.

I personally feel he'll play against Bolton and rightly so and in fairness he's much better than Agger in the air. At the moment we desperately need a CB who can defend with their head. Soto is the man!

On a side note Carra has been stinking the joint out with his performances. I'd of hoped Rafa would of dropped him at RB and stuck young Darby in there.

Bit harsh generalising that "many fans on these boards are like that" and "the fact he's Greek and not Italian, Spanish, French or Dutch hinders posters perspectives." I think the fact that his career spans Greece, SPL and Germany before Liverpool perhaps, but not "just because he's greek" (paraphrasing)

Do I think he deserves his place? On form perhaps. But there is also the adage "form is temporary, class is permanent" and the question will remain whether good form against Stoke, spudz and Wolves merits a place ahead of others.

I do agree on the Gerrard issue to some degree, although I did point out on here yesterday that Aquilani was gradually introduced after injury at snail's pace, Gerrard only at snail's pace if the snail is riding a cheetah. Although some of the comments I was reading yesterday about "dropping Gerrard" don't apply, he wouldn't have been "dropped" if he'd been left out or started on the bench because he never played the previous match. Would I have dumped Lucas? Maybe. But equally I'd have weighed up how much of a threat Wolves posed, not much of one if truth be told, and considered leaving out Mascherano instead. We needed to be positive, if anything I guess you could argue perhaps our CBs are so much a much of a muchness that we should pick them on their non-defensive abilities - passing, composure in possession, the ones that don't put it out for a corner whenever under the remotest of pressure.

"form is temporary, class is permanent". I agree Owzat. I know what Soto brings to the table. I believe that he is class, because I have not seen otherwise. However I do aknowledge that the EPL is a different beast. As Liverpool fans who have become familiar with Soto only after he came to Anfield, you cannot assume neither form or class just yet. He is definitely in form and hopefully he will be given the opportunity to prove that he is indeed class.

I remember him when he played up here for Rangers and he was a bombscare then.

I am not doubting he is doing a decent job for us but to put him in the "class" mould is just plain daft  :lookaround

Once he gets to a certain standard he will have to expect to be dropped

He played 43 games with them in one season he couldnt have been that bad. Regardless, he went to Rangers recoverning from an injury that had him miss EURO 2004. He really came into his own in the Bundesliga.

He deserves his place in the team and is the best defender we have to deal with Kevin Davies.

We'll see if he keeps his starting place with the next three games being all top half sides, the bitters at home then two very testing away ties. It will be interesting to see if Agger starts in place of Skrtel next game, there is a case to be made for consistency and keeping the same XI that started the last game - but Rafa tries to "out-tactic" so many sides instead of putting out a side better than the opposition and making them counter us.

Hes been superb lately.

The one thing we have lacked post Sami, is a big, tall physical presence in defence....a brute. The Greek is it.

Agger is a classy footballing central defender, Carra is a great organiser in positioning the defence... but neither are that tall (both about 6') and suffer aerially, and both can be outmuscled. Skrtel meanwhile aint very good in the air (hes never be a threat in corners) and has a pretty wirey physique..he too has been bullied.

The Greek is unlike them...and yesterday for example, Davies who has regularly caused us problems, was snuffed out completely. Hes given us that bit of steel...and with us not controlling possession in midfield anymore like we did with Alonso, the opposition now get more of the ball, more attacks/crosses as the defence is under more pressure... the big Greek then becomes vitally important.

Makes me laugh that Davies can pose anyone a threat, yet he scored TWELVE goals last season. That is his joint highest tally in any season though! (averages a goal every five games)

To give the manager some credit Kyriagos has been a good signing for the money. This guy looks like he really wants it and hasnt let anyone down. Not only can he can battle but he can play a bit and get in positions to score goals as well.He certainly showing the way for Skrtel and Agger.
