ALBERTO AQUILANI - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ben Patrick » Wed Jan 27, 2010 2:18 pm

I dont think there is any other manager that i can recall that has spent major money on two players and then virtually bombed them like Rafa has done with Aquilani and what he did with Keane.

Cant get my head around it at all.

What, because I put the team before my ego?!?!?!? ???  Did you read Babel's comments about not passing to team mates because he thinks they don't pass to him? I'm not saying you shouldn't be upset if you feel hard done by, but public crying about it and tantrums when your form hardly guarantees you a 1st team place is Babel-esque.

Oh, and as a Liverpool fan I'd be over the moon just to pull on the red shirt, he reportedly was an LFC fan.

Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

Come on, he scored goals in games and then was not in the side the next game.
It was a ridiculous situation and there is no way he was treated right.

Dont even go there comparing him to Babel, when Keane was here he worked his @ss off, granted his form at times wasnt what it should have been, but there was no complaints from me regarding the effort he put in.

The big worry about Aquilani is we are now over 5 months into the season and we still don't know if he is any good, or at least able to adapt to English football.
Just sums up the season for me.
Hope he shows us what he can do, if Benitez plays him that is, surely the likes of Purslow must be thinking why we spent £20 million on him?

Mind you Babel is in his third and has he ever reached his 'potential'? = No

Feel sorry for the guy, if he is confident in his own ability, he must look at matches like last night and think, what the fook do I have to do to get on the pitch.

Rafa gave Keane plenty of chances but Keane couldna hit a barn door at 3 paces. Aquaboy's not even getting teh chances. WTF is going on I wonder?

It's fair to say Rafa never really took to Keane and you might say similar things of Aquilani.

I was also thinking that both players lack a physical edge to their game which was one of the reasons why, IMO, Keane failed to settle down in our setup.

But that desire for physicality is one of Rafa's main flaws cause many creative smart and technical players aren't the most strong and physical in stature but got a football brain which not many on the team has. Alonso was one who had just that.

You get a lot of fight(which for some reason everbody loves) if you play 11 Kuyt but you win exactly zero trophies with that kind of players as none of them can create anything forward.

Of course, a balance is needed. If you haven't the physical attributes for the role, other areas of your game have to compensate, or you have to adapt but I don't think Keane had the balance of attributes to play successfully in our setup.

I'm still waiting for Aquilani to play more games, but if I could have foreseen his first six games (or whatever it is) then I'd be lying if I had said I didn't expect to see more evidence of a player capable of adapting.

If Acquilani doesnt fit into the team pattern then you have to ask why the hell he signed the lad. Benitez took a massive punt to bring him here injured so he must have considered where he will slot into his first 11 and improve the side. Its at the point where you can only assume he doesnt fancy him now and its another poor signing and money we can ill afford to waste. You can see another quick sale at loss not too far down the lines. You cant blame the player when hes not getting a run and you wonder if Benitez has any concience about this deal at all and how much more backing he expects from his employers and support when he mucks about like this.

I still think it's too early to judge him given the time he was out for. Id say maybe around March or April time he will be at full fitness not to mention he has to adapt to the physical side of the premiership so probably next season. I just wish he would play more often.

He cost around the same too.  :D Must be something about costing 20Mil. Rafa spends the first year proving to the player, 'just because you cost 20millions doesn't mean you will start automatically si?'  :p
