Alonso Transfer Request Confirmed - and Denied

Following today`s press reports that Xabi Alonso has handed in a written transfer request; we have been inundated with questions from fans asking if this is true...

In response, I can only say that this is a very complicated situation and I am hearing conflicting versions of events: the player`s entourage are denying that Xabi Alonso has handed in a transfer request; while on the other hand, Liverpool Football Club insists that a transfer request was submitted to the club last night, and it has been suggested that the paperwork was prepared at least a month in advance.

I am of the opinion that the decision to make this public knowledge represents an attempt to speed up the negotiations while simultaneously making it known that it is the player who wants to leave.

As has been widely reported, Rafa Benitez had effectively placed a 48 hour deadline on the deal and it is apparent that Liverpool want this matter resolved once and for all, today, so that they can plan for life with, or without, Alonso from tomorrow. However, Real Madrid – or should we say Florentino Perez – may stubbornly refuse to be seen to pressured into reacting to any ultimatum and, furthermore, the Spanish club are encountering difficulties in offloading players to raise funds and free up space in an overloaded squad.

On the other hand, it is possible that a fee could be agreed today and that Liverpool accept an immediate first instalment with subsequent payments made at a later date covering the total amount.

The ball has now been placed in Real Madrid`s court and it is impossible to second guess what their next move will be. It is evident that at least one party wants the matter resolved today, but whether or not they get their wish remains to be seen...

Anyway if Madrid can't come up with a figure today then Rafa should just tell Xabi he is staying

Is right.

Rafa's the Gaffa and he is pure quaality

On the Huntelaar thing, I remember when Rafa signed Kuyt I felt Huntelaar would have been a far better option.  Then about a week later I watched Holland beat Ireland in a friendly 3 or 4 nil.  Kuyt looked exactly what he is... an honest grafter, but Huntelaar was clinical, a typical goal poacher.  Up to his transfer to Madrid, he looked a smashing player but at Madrid I reckon a player can sometimes blossom but also can get the life sucked out of them if not given a proper chance in the team.

€20 + Huntelaar for Xavi and I reckon we'll be laughing.

  Yes mick, while I spend my money, drive my nice car, fish on my nice boat, sh@g my hot young girlfriend (and I'm 42) and operate my business or while I am catching Blue Marlin on my summer holidays I am obsessing about your posts :)  Whether your cronies appease you or not is irrelevant.

Maybe if you put more time into life as you do on the net you too would be doing what you like like to do (unless of course you are    )   :;):

My take on the Xabi saga, he wants to go sell him to the team that pays what we want, if not he stays and he is professional enough to deal with it. Simple enough really!

Well the sooner the better now so we can forget about Xabi and get on with getting a new player or 2 in and starting the new season

I dont blame him at all for being unhappy, "we are thinking of buying Gareth Barry to replace you"........."we missed out on Gareth Barry we want you to stay now".

Although he is one of our best players IF he goes to Madrid then good luck to him, serves us right for messing him about.

Have we learnt from almost losing Gerrard through p!ssing players about ???

Just want this sorted as quick as possible, this is such a negative so close to the beggining of the
season.

But is it wrong for me to feel excited?, i mean who will we get/ what dimensions will the new players
add to the team? will we attack more, so many questions going on in my head.

I just can't wait till all is done and dusted and the season kicks off, Xabi or not we are gonna kick the Cr@p outta
Spurs.
