If Rafa does decide to sell him under no circumstances should Xabi be sold to a rival club.

Liverpool FC's Xabi Alonso targetted by incoming Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti

CARLO Ancelotti has already considered a future with Chelsea, according to revelations made by the AC Milan coach in his autobiography.

In ’Preferisco La Coppa’ (I Prefer The Cup), which was launched in Italy yesterday, the 49-year-old describes two meetings he claims to have held with Blues owner Roman Abramovich last year in Geneva and Paris.

Ancelotti admits he found himself plotting the best way forward for the Stamford Bridge club.

“I confess that at certain points in 2008-09 I watched my DVDs of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba,” said the Italian, who won two European Cups with AC Milan.

“I was already the coach of the boys on paper.”

Ancelotti also proffered the names of two players - Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso and Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery - who he thought could help to turn Chelsea into the attractive, winning side the Russian craves.

“President, your team is very physical, you have to put more quality in the middle of the pitch,” Ancelotti claims to have told Abramovich.

“I gave him two names, Franck Ribery and Xabi Alonso.

“He thought of a third name, that of Andriy Shevchenko, who was close to his heart. (Abramovich said:) ’I can’t understand why he’s not playing, because since we brought him to England he’s not the real Sheva.”’

Abramovich is said by Ancelotti to have added: “Chelsea don’t have a personality. I have the ambition of winning every competition in which my team takes part, a team that at the moment I don’t recognise.”

-----

If Xabi gets sold anyway I would be upset but at the same time id say to myself ok I saw this coming. But if he gets sold to a rival especially Chelsea I will be fuming. We could probabyl get more money from Chelsea but still you cant let a player of his quality go to a rival team.

Bloody continentals, how little they realise Essien is a World Class player according to Sky news. What do they know.

This article reinforces the notion that when you have a player you can sell, and Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester City are knocking at your door, you can't sell your third best asset of the club in a reasonable price to the biggest money wasters of the world, no matter what Alonso thinks about his happyness.

Not even Cheslea manager yet and he is already oublically tapping up our players the :censored: :censored:. He probably made up his mind to want him after Istanbul.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Barry signs a new contract with Villa. Then we will see if Xabi is really upset or not with Rafa.

Not sure if saying you like a player is tapping him up mate.

I am sure every manager and chairman discuss potential signings with each other.

Except Rafa and Parry that is  :D

He won't go to Chelsea

I just see it as an honour that he has been mentioned up there with Ribery as a player Ancelotti likes

It looks like he may be on his way now, as long as it's not just to fund the Gareth Barry deal then I can accept it, although I will be upset about it, we shouldn't have to sell our best players, and he better not go to a rival

If this is just so rafa can buy barry as a replacement I will go mad

Ha ha yes true but still he knew full well when his book would be published so he has basically sent a message to Liverpool saying they may come for Alonso even if he hasn't directly said so. Abramovich will spend big again this summer too so don't expect them not to if Ancelotti really wants him.

Uli Hoeness is the manager of a club, Bayern Munchen, that while it's not as big as Liverpool in Europe is certainly a big one.

And he has said, just as you expect from a top club manager, that "I hear that there are 40-50 M offers for Ribery, but for that sum I won't bother to answer the telephone".

This is exactly what I expect of Rafa in this matter.

Yeah but thats becuase both Real Madrid and Manchester United are chasing him as a replacement for Ronivestite so clearly clubs will be willing to splash more if either avoiding a Ronivestite purchase or having benefited from one.

I hope to god if he has to go its for 30.

Has Coco gone is he handling this one ? :(

Oh well I've never heard a manager or a player say that before a transfer, it's all ok then.  ???

exactly the same things he was saying before he fired keane off. If rafa said it was raining outside I would check

Was Keane playing week in week out NO, Was Keane one of the best players weve got NO, Its a bit of a different scenario this time i think,

True but in football no doesn't always mean no  :D

To be honest this is the stance Rafa should anyway generally. But he was only 3 Mil away from accepting last summer so I don't think he will.

Source is :censored: I know but...

Benitez begins plans for life after Xabi

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is ready to listen to offers for Xabi Alonso, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City among those said to be interested, as the former Valencia coach has lined up Athletic Bilbao’s Javi Martinez as his replacement.

According to reports in the Mirror, the 20 year old Basque playmaker is being lined up for a £10 million bid after a string of stirring displays in La Liga.

The defensive midfielder has been compared to Patrick Viera or Steven Gerrard and has been monitored by Liverpool since 2007. At 6ft 3in the player would fit seamlessly into the physical nature of English football.

Benitez has recently dismissed reports he is set to off-load Xabi Alonso, but privately he is well aware of the need to raise funds to bring in new recruits. Should the Merseyside club receive an offer of £20 million for the Spaniard, the club will sell, and heading the queue is Real Madrid.

Alonso nearly joined Juventus last summer, but the Italian giants baulked at the £17 million asking price.

Javi Martinez is undoubtedly a star of the future but he would NOT replace Alonso in the short term. OK so he's a big strong lad but he'd still need 1-2 years to acclimatize to the EPL.

If Alonso is to go then it CANNOT be to another EPL team. That would have the potential to seriously bite us on the :censored: in the future.

This caper with Alonso is all a bit unsettling. I was hoping to retain all the best players, ship out some of the dead wood, take an investment from the owners and tie up the 3-4 players we are looking to bring in.
