just got back from the pictures with the little 'un after seeing 'where the wild things are'. i was a little sceptical about this one as i've been a lifelong fan of the book but spike jonze has done a brilliant job of it. its moving, its funny, and it looks and sounds amazing. the book itself is only 40 odd pages long so they obviously had to invent a few things to pad it out to movie length, and they have added a whole bunch of scenes and ideas which fit perfectly within the feeling and mood of the story.

even if you haven't got a little kid (or a big kid) as an excuse its well worth seeing anyway.

Just saw avatar and sherlock holmes over the holidays.

thoroughly enjoyed them. solid movies. about 2 -3 hours long.

would be worth adding to a budding movie collection.

The Invention of Lying. Ricky Gervais plays an ersatz David Brent who becomes the first man who learns how to lie.

F'uck all else on the telly , I found this mildly entertaining with a few chuckles sprinkled throughout. There were even one or two moments where I thought perhaps Gervaise's acting ability derserved more than the credit I'd previously given him.

Not a bad stocking filler 6/10.

I saw Avatar a few nights ago, Sci-fi fantasy movie. Not bad, very long. People will like this if they like this genre-7/10

Bad Lieutenant- Nick Cage and Val Kilmer, this film had a B-grade feel to it and I couldn't really get into it. 5/10

The invention of Lying- Ricky Gervais, steer clear of this c.rap, Ricky Gervais and Hollywood don't go- 2/10

The triangle- Weird film with Angel from Home & away, goes round and round in circles. 6/10

Doghouse-Danny Dyer and a few other familiar British actors are in this highly entertaining 'Shaun of the dead' type movie, pretty funny, gorey and what not, worth a watch 8/10.

A Perfect get away, Good movie about two newly weds on a honeymoon in Honolulu. Previous to their trip anotther couple were murdered while out on a track walk in Honolulu. The murderers are still at large, a twisty, dramarish thriller that is well worth a watch 9/10.

Invictus- Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mandella and Matt Damon plays some SA rugby player, hard to get into. I was a tad dissapointed as it was pretty slow and I fell asleep during it. I'll give it another go and give you a better verdict.

Understand why some critics have labeled it as "Dances with Aliens" but to be honest even on my tv I found it pretty spectacular, so much so I'm tempted to go and re-watch it at my local Imax.

Story wise it's nothing new, every cliche in the book is used but visually it is something of a treat.

Ah, Woof, you literally are missing half of the experience if you don't watch this on the big screen in 3d. Your rating would probably be an 8 or closer to a 9 if you did that. The use of the 3d is amazing.

Talking of the story, I read the original idea Cameron wrote back in '95 and it read for a far darker story with more intricate and interesting plot developments. Would have been twice the film it currently is, and I'm guessing studio pressure forced him to drop a lot of the darker elements because the production cost was so big so that kids could go see it and not be restricted to adults only.

Watched a blinding movie tonight called 'My Lovely Bones' if you get the chance to see it, do so.

I also watched Ingenious Basterds, I enjoyed this one too.

Watched "The Time Travellers Wife" and "Brothers" last night . Got absolutely nothing from either of them other than the realisation that if I'd given them a miss I could have had an extra four hours kip.

Avatar was very good saw it a couple of weeks ago but not 3-D version, however even in 2-D the effects are impressive enough.
2012 was fairly bad, the special effects are the only decent thing on show in the whole movie and some of the acting is woeful.
Have Interview with the Vampire recorded to be watched tonight, anyone know if this is good?

Seen The March of the Penguins for the first time last and was really impressed with it. A story very well told and moving as well
