Thats what has happened far too often under Rafa.
I think we should have gone for it in the league cup as well due to the fact that we have been trophyless for 3 seasons.
We havent even played at the new wembley yet.
For a club our size that is simply not good enough.

i'd rather finish fourth in the group than be lumped with playing pointless games in the europa league. the thought of playing thursday and sunday every other week doesn't excite me at all.

I agree mate, but its all about the money now. Its more important from a financial point of view to finish fourth than win either of the domestic cups, and a good run in the CL is worth more than the difference between finishing fourth and second in the league.

Obviously we have different priorities as fans, we want cups and trophies, while they have to go for the money matches.

Looked at another way, would we have got Torres if we hadn't reached the CL final the previous season ? One good cup run in the CL probably paid for him.

Imo an its just that, The fans will decide when Rafa is sacked, Once the majority who go the game turn on him thats when hes gone, The owners are waiting for this , at the moment Rafa still has the majority on his side , but as i said that swings an noises are made from the fans at the ground an hes gone,

agree with that nan. you only have to look at megson at bolton. even if he wins the next five in a row you can't see him lasting. the fans can't stand the guy and have wanted him out for ages.

I think I'm done with Benitez.

I remember saying at the end of last season that I wouldn't mind seeing Benitez stay if he altered certain approaches to his game. He hasn't and I believe that this season is simply a case of the chickens coming home to roost. I think last year's season challenge (which he blew spectacularly) was the bliiiiiiiip and normal Benitez service has been resumed, albeit compounded by a conspiracy of events that have made things worse (injuries etc).

But, I'm convinced that the limitations of Benitez will surely mean that, with him at the helm, Liverpool will not win the Premiership and they will continue to trundle along as the poor cousins of the so-called big 4 at best and struggling for 4th spot at worse. There is of course a worse(er) scenario...and that sees us plummeting into double figues territory in the table.

I don't even want to think about that, but it is very possible if they continue on the present path.

Either way, if Kenny Dalglish is in the wings waiting to take up the reins at Christmas, then I say hand it over and use the six months between Christmas and Summer putting some serious offers in the way of a future manager...assuming Kenny doesn't do an excellent job, in which case the obvious choice would be to retain him.

Bar a couple of months of great football last season (when Benitez had thrown out the Prem) and a decent spell the season before (when the league was blown at Christmas) I haven't really enjoyed the football that Liverpool has played and as long as Benitez remains as manager of Liverpool, I think we only have frustration to look forward to, in the main.

Spot on Ninny, but I think the tide is turning, weren't they booing him just a few weeks ago?

I think we should wait and see what happens tonight before we jump on the "what does the rest of the season bring" bandwagon. This might be blind faith in LFC but I believe that we'll do our job in Hungary tonight and I also think that Lyon will help us out in Italy.

Like I said it might be blind faith but if i think back to 2005 and Olympiakos I get that feeling of belief that anything can happen. We need a little rub of the green and I believe this will come tonight.

Well for me the performance tonight had a dangerous tinge of "lost the dressing room" to it. The players had no urgency to get the 4-0 win they may have needed, and indeed were very fortunate to get the win at all in the end.

I'm begining to come around to the idea that the change needs to be made sooner rather than later. Lose to Everton on Sunday and we should shake hands and put the whole experience behind us I think.

The dressing room was lost long before this game. The way the season has progressed is exactly as anyone could have predicted. Rafa is too cautious, too analytical and most important of all too distant from his players. His personal style has caused this. Sammy Lee made a change last season but that's gone Sammy can't pick the players up after Rafa has knocked them.

Rafa's time at Anfield is coming to an end and only Kenny can fill his shoes. It time to turn full circle and go back to what we know. The foreign manager experiment for LFC is over. The wee glaswegian is foriegn enough.

Kenny left the managers job for reasons beyond football and also hasnt managed in the game for well over ten years .

I know Benny. The guys heart was broken, but he's come back and he loves the club. His time out of management won't harm him too much I'd rather he give it a go if Rafa goes and if it gets too much I'm sure we'd all understand.
