I think he is a brilliant manager but he makes small mistakes that lead to big ones. I think spending 17.5Million on Johnson was a mistake because although I think he is a very good player and is a better rb than Arbeloa, we had right back covered for the time being. We needed a backup striker more and we still do now.

So you only think it's a small mistake that we only have one striker in the squad, you see that is where you and I have a difference of opinion

I said small mistakes that lead to big ones... the small mistake was getting rid of the Strikers we could use now, this turned into a big mistake when he didnt buy a worthy replacement. Instead he bought a right back.
So I dont think there is much of a difference of opinion because it was a big mistake that Rafa didnt buy a replacement. I never said that was a small mistake

The problem is getting this "back-up striker" who is good enough to cover Torres, but not so good he wants to start alongside him or instead of him. Maybe we're simply too focused on getting Premiership experienced players and should be looking at younger talented players who are more likely to be happy on the bench. That said, perhaps Rafa could keep tabs on citeh, they are bound to have a load of players wanting games and not getting them. When Sturridge was up for grabs, Chelsea snapped him up while we were poncing about over our 'big signings'. We let Owen go to the mancs and now hate him for it, that was something that could have been avoided had we made a move - I'm sure he'd have preferred to play for us. Of course our line of English kids coming through the ranks is all but dry, strikers ended what with Mellor? While I may have questioned the sense in Houllier buying young players like FSP and ALT when he did, I wonder if letting FSP go wasn't a mistake. We made too many wholesale changes in key areas, no gradual switches so we end up in a position of having strikers not good enough or inexperienced.
And what happens when top strikers are available? We didn't get Bent or Defoe when up for grabs, instead we paid over the odds for Keane and sent him back looking for a money back guaranteeDid we make moves on Owen, Arshavin or Sturridge? Or for that matter did we investigate the possibility of signing Anelka when he was up for sale and Chelsea paid all of £15m for him? ALL of the players I've mentioned in this paragraph cost LESS than Keane, except Keane obviously, but how many aren't better?!?! (Sturridge?) Rafa looks as much like being mugged for players as citeh and spudz. I think it speaks volumes that when Rafa wanted Barry the price was reported as £18m, 12 months later Citeh sign him for £12m despite having more money than sense.
N'Gog may well work out as a decent buy, you can't really go wrong at £1.5m. But do we need a decent buy on the bench or someone who is going to make it hard to leave him out and at worst make us a profit. If we sold N'Gog we might get maybe £4m, principly because top clubs who could afford more wouldn't want him.
