If Aquilani isn't going to be fir to make any kind of debut before October 28th, how long after that can we expect him to be actually up to speed? Mid Novemeber ???

The more you look at it, the more it is hard to escape the idea that his signing is a huge gamble. It's all very well saying we signed him for five years not five minutes, but if we're out of the league title race before he plays a match how good will he have to be to justify the means?

Perhaps it reflects another of Rafa's rather odd views that "the title isn't won or lost in September", the baffling aspect is that it is all very well believing it is won in May, BUT you have to still be in contention for that to be the case and the preceding months go a lot farther to deciding the title destination than any named cliched month ie titles aren't won in August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April or May, they are won over the whole lot. That said you could pinpoint January and February as where we lost the league title, 10 points from 21 and the mancs shot past us ne'er to be caught.

So to tie this in with Aquilani, he might be great from November through to May, but by that stage how much damage will have been done? Did fans on here expect us to have lost four games by the first week of October? I tot up that being one less than last season - two in the league, one in the Champions League, one in each of the domestic cups = five.

Good post. Its true if we do perform consistently after nov when aquilani comes good we could still end up comming short and pin pointing the early defeats.
Even though the others will drop more points im sure we will aswel. Its not like we will win all of our remaining games from now on.
The annoying this is whenever the top sides drop points we never seem to take advantage and tend to just follow them with either a loss or draw.
In a few situations we did that last season and have done the same this season even though the opposition was tough.

big hope on the lad shoulders in a tough league to adapt to just ask tossena, just let him be better than him for rafas sake. this forum will have a field day if he isn't instantly as xabi or as passionate as carra. there are some big hitters on here that want him to fail if you go by some of the post on this thread.

i will give you that you could just see xabi was class from his first game but you have to remember the poor spell he had

for me i think jay spearing should have had some of lucas playing time , even though i think lucas has been better than most liverpool fans give him credit for, for me he was better than gerrard against chavski

Shame that 1st one didn't go in, would have been a classic goal had it done.
