Rafa tells Nando to shut the hell up :D

Rafael Benitez, the Liverpool manager, has ordered Fernando Torres to focus all his energies on goalscoring instead of becoming embroiled in verbal exchanges with opposition players and match officials.

On several occasions during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Torres appeared to become easily distracted from the job in hand because of his apparently growing inclanation to allow his frustration to boil to the surface.

The centre forward was clearly unhappy with the level of protection being afforded to him by referee Phil Dowd and could be seen gesticulating at the Staffordshire official a number of times. Torres also had a spat with Tom Huddlestone, the Tottenham midfield player, which resulted in both being lectured by the referee.

Benitez has made it clear to Torres that he will not tolerate such behaviour, having seen it creep into his game following his move from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool, and has explained to the Spanish international that the best way to get to the opposition is by scoring goals.

“I told him that he has to stop this,” said Benitez. He knows he has to improve this aspect of his game. He has to be completely focused on his football and he knows that the way forward is to respond to any intimidation by scoring goals.

“Sometimes it is not easy to deal with everything opponents do, but he knows he must deal with it in a different way. In his first season with us he was really focused and I think he will be like that again now.

“I don’t think he is frustrated. He knows he has to improve a little bit in these things. He is a star and the defenders are really worried about him but that is part of the game now.”

Torres failed to shine during the latter stages of Liverpool’s pre-season preparations and Benitez is of the belief that his lacklustre displays have been caused by his involvement in the Confederations Cup with Spain.

The 25-year-old returned to training two weeks after the majority of his Liverpool team mates and his manager’s view is that, though now fully fit, Torres is still short of the necessary match sharpness, something which was evident at White Hart Lane at the weekend.

“He is fit, but match fitness is something that you get during the season when you play games. He only arrived with us on July 19, then we had the trip to Asia and he was playing for 15 minutes, half an hour or 45 minutes. Then we had three days off and he played against Espanyol,” added Benitez.

Rafa has a point , nando has been very vocal last season , there are games where he gets frustrated and doesn't perform , we didn't see this in his first season and he was absolutely on fire . Perfect response to rafa tonight would be to net a hat trick tonight

Someone recently said that Torres should take some stick because he is playing :censored: and not to pile it all on Lucas. (Cant remember who said it)

Well in response to that.. even when Torres is playing :censored: he still manages to score a goal and make a difference. Lucas struggles to do that even when he is having a good game.

But I will agree that Torres isn't playing at his best. This might be because he runs out of options when he is alone up front, and he finds himself having to run at defenders and take them on, not an easy thing to do!

Maybe going into 4-4-2 and getting another decent striker would have been a better option this season

TORRES: WHY I'M LOVING LIVERPOOL LIFE
Steve Hunter 07 September 2009
Fernando Torres has spoken of his love for the city of Liverpool and thanked the supporters for making him feel at home.
El Nino, who is away with Spain this week bidding to secure World Cup qualification, has become the darling of the Kop since his arrival two years ago - and he insists the respect works both ways.

"The people are so nice and polite here, and have a lot of respect for players when you are away from the pitch," he said.

"That is one of the main things for me. In Spain it was difficult for me to go to restaurants or just walk in the street with my friends.

"Now I can do these things and go to the park, walk my dogs and go out for dinner.

"It's a really working class city and I like that because I was born in a working class part of Spain.

"The people work all week and they go to the ground each weekend to enjoy the team. On the Monday they are working hard again just so they can see their team on the weekend.

"It's really special to see supporters with my name on their shirt. I can understand why they would wear a Stevie G or Carra shirt because they are from Liverpool.

"I only came here two years ago as a foreign player but they love me like Stevie or Carra. That's amazing and I have to say thank you to them for that."

NO THANK YOU FERNANDO LAD

In the words of JL Picard, "make it so". But seriously, he could top a zillion polls or come bottom in a zillion polls, Torres is the better goalscorer while Rooney has the more creative skills (if only he had a brain to go with it)
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer
