He is fed up, like we are over the fact we have invested NOTHING in the squad.

Remember when he said something along the lines of "signing Villa, Silva or Mata would win us the league" over the summer?

We signed none of them.

He's frustrated over it, just like we are.

That's my take on it anyway.

Long time no see Mr Barrett, where´ve you been?

I think the signing of Aquilani and Johnson might be £37.5m worth of argument to counter having "invested nothing in the squad". Maybe not the players he or we wanted, but how many would have come and at what cost?

I think for the 28 millionth time Owzat - we didnt fork out 37.5 million pounds in cash on those two players this summer - as far as im away its only 15 million roughly this summer - ie 5 million down payment on aqualini plus 10 mil on johnson .

Absolutely right, the rest is just "add ons" so definately shouldn't be counted.

Its just like when you buy a house, even though the advertised price is 200,000 quid, because you only pay a 20 grand deposit and the rest will only have to be paid at a later date, you can safely tell everyone you got the bargain of the century and bought a house for 20 grand :buttrock. I'm with GYBS on this "add on" theory totally, I love the whole concept.

One potential problem I'd like to clear up in advance though. If we spend 20 million quid next Summer, do we actually count it as 30 million because we've got to include the "add ons" for Aquilani and for Torres and for Johnson and Masherano and anyone else we've got them for  ???

Maybe it's best if we just forget about them completely on reflection, pretend we haven't got to pay them at all  .

I know.  Some people on here go on like they actually know these players.  It's pathetic.

Never liked him as a person

He was probably referring to how last year Masch was saying Rafa was like a father to him and how he owed him everything only for the player to turn around and try to angle a move away to Barca this summer. And he is dead right too.

The point im making mick is we didnt have 40 mil cash lying around to but someone like silva and someone else - we came up with deals to enable us to not have to spend 40 mil all in one go .

Exactly right. His early statements hit the wrong notes for me back then, and his behaviour since is cast in a much worse light because of what he said  ???

Fernando Torres insists that he will beat the bullies who have subjected him to the most vicious of attention this season.

The Liverpool striker has paid a heavy price for being ranked the number one striker in Europe, the battering he has taken seeing him sporting as many black eyes as he has scored goals in the Premier League so far - three in total on both counts.

At times, he believed he had been singled out for some criminally unfair tactics, and found himself distracted and complaining to referees.

But the Spanish international with the golden boots explained yesterday at the launch of his autobiography, serialised this week in the Mirror, that he has come to terms with his status as the most marked man in Europe, and now wants to learn how to overcome it by scoring even more goals.

"Yes, another week, another black eye for me. The latest one I got with the national team, not in England, but football is like this. This type of thing happens.

"I have to learn, I have to adapt and protect myself because I think I understand now the referees don't have to protect just three or four players, they have to protect all of them. England is a physical league and we have to learn and try to be safe.

"Of course, it gets harder for me, because I am targeted, but half-way through my first season, the defenders knew me as well. I cannot use that as an excuse. I have to be ready. I have to be aware of defenders paying more attention to me, and I have to improve and try to be stronger and better."

Torres was given the usual treatment by the uncompromising Hungarians of Debrecen on Wednesday night, and struggled to make a real impact, which he admits has been a problem in a slow start to the season for him.

The Spanish star admitted that in the past it has bothered him, but after a heart to heart with manager Rafa Benitez, he has decided to let his feet do the talking.

"If you get frustrated then you cannot win the game. I know for the good of the team I have to be aware and beat the defenders. That is my job," he said.

"Scoring goals is always the best answer. I know now I have to stay focused on football. I have spoken to Rafa all the time and he said stop talking to referees they are just doing their job.

"I work with Rafa all the time. I was watching clips of my performances form the first and second seasons with him, and he was talking to me about individual players before each game and looking for their weaknesses."

Torres has never been so battered as this season in the Premier League, but even though he has the black eyes to prove it, he insisted that he still loves English defenders - because at least they are not cheats.

"All teams all want to win in any way they can but here in England, players are very honest. It is more physical coming here from the Spanish league but the people are honest.

"In other leagues, it is maybe not as physical but people try to cheat with their elbows and things like that. That doesn’t happen in England. The defenders are strong and physical but they are always fighting for the ball."

Taken with a pinch of salt and disregarded for the first time as I took no notice of the first 27 million 999 thousand 999 times  :rasp

Or see bigmick's post, don't know why he bothers replying to people who decide to see things the most bizarre of ways. Never become an accountant

Exactamundo. People conveniently adjust figures without balancing them, hence the accountancy reference. Apparently Johnson only cost £10.5m as we wrote off £7m in debt, the fact that the £7m is then lost is lost on some. If you want to do it that way then we sold Crouch for £4m and took a £3m hit on that player (bought for £7m)

Truth is we'll never know what the exact fee is, instalments, add-ons etc. The figure quoted wasn't even meant to be definitive, just a pointer that we did spend a wad of cash in the summer.

Two goals today, but he still doesn't look on the ball....Nor does the match made in heaven (with Gerrard) seem to be in any great state at the moment.

Guy is a legend end of! He is nowhere near 100% yet but he still popped up with 2 massive goals today. Still 6 goals in as many games for a striker who we know can play better is :censored: brilliant!

Sheesh, some people are hard to please!  :D  He may not be at the absolute pinnacle of his game but I'd say he's at least "on the ball" wouldn't you?  He looked a dam.n site better today than he has in the last few games--not just the goals but in terms of his movement, touch and overall body language.  What's really amazing though is that we all pretty much agree that he hasn't been at his best this season--and he's said as much this very week--and he's still scored five in six games.    :suspect:
