Blackburn reject Aston Villa’s bid for Stephen WarnockGary Jacob

Aston Villa will have to raise their offer for Stephen Warnock after a bid of about £4 million was turned down by Blackburn Rovers.

Martin O’Neill wants to bring in two defenders, with one a left back to replace Nicky Shorey, who is available for transfer. Villa had hoped that Wilfred Bouma would fill the position, but there are still some doubts about his recovery from an ankle injury, suffered in July 2008, which forced him to miss last season.

Blackburn believe that Warnock is worth about £7.5 million, five times more than they paid Liverpool two years ago. The player has three years left on his deal and has also been looked at by Tottenham Hotspur.

Decent bets

Martin Petrov has said that he wants to leave Manchester City with Tottenham considering the Bulgaria winger. “I don’t see City depending too much on me this year, at least from what I have seen from the pre-season friendlies so far,” Petrov said. “No footballer is content with polishing the bench and I am no exception.”

Portsmouth are in talks to sign Anthony Vanden Borre on loan from Genoa but are not willing to pay £4 million to sign the Belgium player, who can play in defence or midfield. The South Coast club have also been offered John Mensah, the Ghana defender, who has been told that he can leave Lyons. The French club want to recoup the £6 million that they paid from Rennes last summer, but Portsmouth will consider a loan only.

Dorian Dervite, the Tottenham defender who is out of contract next summer, has been offered a four-year deal by Villarreal. Boudewijn Zenden has held talks with Hull City, Blackburn and Portsmouth after having turned down the offer of a new two-year contract from Marseilles.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to re-signing Michael Mancienne, the 21-year-old defender, on a season loan from Chelsea.

Birmingham City have given a trial to Boukary Dramé, the Sochaux left back who started his career at Paris Saint-Germain. Birmingham have offered £2.7 million for Michel, but Gijón want £700,000 more for the midfield player.

Dead certs

Arsenal have signed Damian Martínez for £1.2 million from Independiente after the goalkeeper, 16, spent a week on trial in May. The Argentina Under-17 player will return to his former club on loan for the season. Jon Obika, the Tottenham striker, has joined Yeovil Town, of Coca-Cola League One, on loan.

What is wrong with this forum now...  It used to be good fun.  Too many people need to wind their necks in and get on with talking about football.. I am sick of all the crying and moaning and out of control political correctness..  Seriously GROW UP!!!!!!!!!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Hull close in on Negredo

Hull City are closing in on the capture of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Negredo, according to the player's agent.

The 23-year-old is reportedly keen to try his hand in the Premier League after failing to make one senior appearance for the Galacticos, and the Tigers have been in discussions with his agent Alejandro Camano.

Camano has admitted speaking to Hull chairman Paul Duffen, but would not say if a deal had been completed.

Asked whether Negredo could move to City, his agent told the Hull Daily Mail: "It's 100 per cent possible.

"I have had calls with the chairman. He (Negredo) likes the team and it's possible he will play in the Premier League.

"The chairman is a good man but the deal is not totally 100 per cent yet."

The six foot striker has made 80 appearances for Madrid's Castilla reserve side and spent two seasons on loan at Almeria, where 32 goals helped keep the club in La Liga.

Hull have missed out on a number of strikers this summer as they look to bolster their squad for next season, and will be wary that Tottenham, Zenit St Petersburg, Sevilla and Villarreal have all been linked with Negredo in the past.
