Was thinking the same thing myself and that would explain why they are looking to pay very silly money for a player who is 28 years old. I personally hope he stays at Chelsea because someone of his caliber and standing puts them right into top 4 material in my book. You've instnatly got a figurehead, captain and leader if you bring him in.

Not worried about City. Their defence is average, haven't seen alot of De Jong, Barry wants £££, Robinho wants £££, Tevez wants £££, Santa Cruz is injury prone so i only rate Stephen Ireland.

They wont finish in the top 4.I dont think they will even finish in the top 6.The balance of the squad dont look right to me.They will play some good games but will play more bad ones.Trying to buy success dont work overnight. The vital thing there going to miss is commitment from the players. No one can tell me G Barry went there for other reasons then money.Mark Hughes..good player but overrated as a manager. He gets one good season at Blackburn and all of a sudden he is a top manager.Chelsea buying all the top players was a exception when they were brought by Roman A.They were already a top 4 club.

Gareth Barry has responded to Liverpool supremo Rafael Benitez, as the row over his move to Manchester City continues.

Benitez felt the England midfielder would be an ideal replacement for Real Madrid target Xabi Alonso, but will now be forced to look elsewhere should the Spanish international move to his homeland.

The midfielder recently joined City after turning down the opportunity to play under 'Rafa'.

Liverpool had pursued Barry for 12 months, and Benitez was left shocked and disappointed by the England midfielder's decision, claiming that money was the former Aston Villa man's main motive.

"I found Rafa Benitez's comments a bit disrespectful," Barry told The Daily Telegraph.

"By that stage my decision was made and people should move on. There was genuine interest from Liverpool and I think he's probably just upset I chose City.

"I've been in the Premier League for ten years, more, and the money I've been paid is phenomenal compared to your average, everyday working man. You live and work away from normal life anyway, so money's not a big factor.

"The difference was that City made me feel wanted. Liverpool had a chance to buy me last season but failed to pay the money, and only found it this year when they knew someone else had reached an agreement."

money grabbing gobsh1te, that is the same line Lucas Neil gave when he went to West Ham. Neil has now left West Ham because they wouldn't pay him the huge wages he joined them for.

UPDATE

Just read that because no one else wants Neil, he might go back to West Ham for less money
“You cannot transfer the heart and soul of Liverpool Football Club, although I am sure there are many clubs who would like to buy it.”
