Haysey, good post mate.

Bear in mind when yours and my father were lads life was tougher than today and they were more self reliant and disciplined. Quality of life has improved since Liverpool in the 30´s when my old fella grew up so when he shipped out to Egypt with the rest of his regiment it was no great shock. An 18 year old lad isnt prepared for Afghanistan because of 9 months basic training at CTC Lympstone, he needs time to practise what he´s learnt and adapt to an altogether tougher mindset and more developed tradecraft. Marines are not cheap to train and most sign on for 22 so as an investment (like a car) looking after him for the early stages of his career will pay dividends over time. Peronally I would send anyone under 21 years old or have 3 years or 2 other tours under their belts.

As the standard of life has improved for the average Brit over the last century or so I imagine that the culture shock of going to a sh!thole is more difficult to take.

I remember reading that moral in the British army in WW1 was the best because life in Britain was so :censored:

for the average working class person and they were used to a social class structure and accepting orders "from their betters" that army life wasn't too much different. That's a theory anyway.

thanks mate,also you raise very good points which i agree with,as your right times for the military have changed big time in training & resouces etc. which is a great shame.

Nonsense - no threat to UK and kept Iran in place. Why do you think Iran is flexing its muscles now?

Afghanastan war is justified to prevent training camps for future attacks against Britain and America.
