[Number 9]

What do people think about it?
Im sure most have seen the news lately.Our boys are loosing troops at a higher rate than ever,and we seldom here about the ones that are injured badly for life!There have now been more soldiers lost over there than in Iraq!
Do people think we should be there?

Do people think that we have an hidden agenda...or are they honest when they say they must stop the Taliban to protect innocents over there and stop the risks of terrorist acts in other countries?(Ours included)

Do people think troops have suffice equipment/protection?

Do people think we and the allies can ever win this war?

Would just like to here peoples views on this as I find it interesting...plus the footy chat is Cow Cr@p as theres no games on!

My personal view of this war is that we never should have gotten involved in it in the first place but Tony Blair was Bushes pet so it was inevitable. But the least we can do is ensure our lads are well supplied with equipment, something which I don't think we are doing at all. And at a time when the government and banks are lining their pockets they are out there struggling. And if they are injured when they come back I don't think enough is being done to look after them.

The truth is that the taliban in afghanistan are far from being defeated. We will probably be on operations there for at least the next 5- 10 years imo, possibly even more.

And now we have the Taliban spreading to Pakistan. The Pakistani government made a big mistake in allowing them to rule Swat and now they are paying for it big time. How long before troops get involved there? The whole situation is depressing.

I honestly think it is only a matter of time before a large scale terrorist attack occurs in the UK. 7/7 was nothing compared to 9/11. The sad fact is that as each month goes by more and more people are brainwashed to go there train, fight or worse.

You are right mate,especially about aftercare for injured troops!
They risk their lives for peanuts,the majority of the lads out there are just privates(basically kids) and get paid about £15-£18k  a year,then they get legs blown off and come home and are practically treated like anyone else on disability living allowance..its sad!They deserve more.

I used to be sceptical about the reasons for being there but now I do believe that we are right in trying to crush the taliban and I dont think there are any financial motives.I never did in Iraq either,never thought it was about oil.Us and the USA have spent more money in these wars than we can make profit in oil over a generation.

I do believe the Taliban need to go..their prehistoric laws punishment and cruelty to its own is bang out of order!
im not sure its a war that can ever be won.
Every Taliiban that dies is someones dad,brother,uncle,friend etc.

I think for each one that dies more are made because they die and his family/friends want revenge!Very tricky war.very dirty war.
I reckon we should always respect what goes on in other countries as their way and culture even if its nothing like ours,but the Taliban were bang out of order and people were suffering horribly cause of their actions.

I think though that the government feels that if we fight them there it keeps more terrorists off our soil,yes they have cells here planning things as we speak but we seem to be on top of them and prevent most of their plans.Just think though if they had no one to fight in Afganistan..there would be a hell of a lot more here,we could not cope!

No, Taliban are not responsible for 9/11, Al Qaeda was.

Plus, you lot think this is only a war against Terrorism?

Troops obviously will always need more protection. We all need to get rid of the nukes and concentrate more on the close combat stuff

Talking of close combat..the taliban are using hidden IEDs!
I find it ridiculous that we can be watched from space and they could tell you what flavour of crisps you are eating from a camera on a satellite.....BUT still our troops do not have anything that sufficiently detects hidden bombs!

its a tricky one that.... important to know that taliban and alqaeda are two different things... sure Taleban are fcked in the head and everyone wants them out but then again they arent the only fcked up political regime in the world... you have countries like Zimbabwe and Sudan where things that are just as bad happen, except not many seem to talk about it as much...,
The importance of Afghanistan in geographic terms (same with Iraq) made it imperative that the US and its allies did something to stop taliban and alqaeda before the whole things escalated even further...

Was it wrong to go into Afghanistan in the first place ? no...
Is the way the US and allies are going about the war wrong ? yes imo..
Its a war that CAN be won.. infact i'd say its being won atm but the price being paid is way too high (in every sense) and im sure theres better ways to go about it ..

You mean the gas for the caspian? That's one opinion.

I'm not going to get too deep into the motives of this war as that sort of discussion has no happy ending and will just end in someone getting banned.

But as far as us being there now goes. I agree that the Taliban need to be crushed but I don't think it's working with the way things are being done right now. The Taliban are pussies when it comes to fighting. They launch attacks from built up civillian places. When the troops come they drop their AK-47, pick up a shovel and become farmer Ahmed for the rest of the day. Not to mention bombing of girls schools as well as other attacks on girls and women in order to opress them.
