Saw Red Cliff on Thursday.

It was a decent movie, typical John Woo style film with action taking precedent over characters. The fight scenes in it are spectacular although there are occasional times when it's difficult to keep track of which side is which.

There's plenty of huge armies and some 1-on-1 fighting and it's kept relatively realistic so no wire work (a la crouching tiger). Having said that there's a couple of times when reality is pushed - like catching a thrown spear mid-air. It was an enjoyable film and worth watching if you're into historical epics.

Red Cliff Trailer

I'd give it 7/10

A couple of provisos: it has subtitles for those of you unable to read...and it's a combination of the 2 parts released in China (it's still 2anda half hours long!) so that may explain the lack of character depth.

The original two part version is over 4 hours long, no doubt for western audiences they've dispensed with a lot of dialogue between characters.

How were the subs Bammo ?, on the original chinese release I found them quite small and sometimes difficult to read.

The subs were fairly good actually, big enough to read but not so big they covered the action. The only issue I had with them was the occasional camouflaging against the background.

Of course, in a film of that genre the dialogue isn't crucial and there are cultural differences that alter importance of things said anyway.

Trasnformers 2 , good movie but i felt it was too over hyped thus raising all our expectations , its a bit draggy though mind you and the ending was kind of wack and rushed , but its worthe money and its hilarious as well , 8/10

Liam Neeson "5 minutes of Heaven" .  May hold some interest for those raised in Northern Ireland as the plot revolves around a tv company's attempt to reconcile a catholic murder victims brother and the protestant  killer 30 years after the event, but as a movie ?  "5 Minutes of Heaven" ? .

:no
