The amount of confidence.  To wit, if a mate rings you up and asks you to be his wingman at the club that night, you'd rather hear him say that the girl he's after "probably" has some hot friends and not "possibly" has some hot friends.  A subtle distinction, perhaps, but an important one. :D

Know that one well.

I get yer, and if my mate looks as ugly as Kuyt, then I'll probably cop off!

You don't have to beat your man , kuyt has 15 goals this season and 11 assists thats more assist than ronaldo . I think he's a useful squad player to have , a good player at best . That ride side is his till someone can assure us 15 goals and at least 10 assist a season . The next season will be a big test for him to see if he can reach the heights he has this season or if it was just a fluke this season . His crossing has improved loads this season , something which he has been poor at in his first 2 seasons

This is the strangest topic of all time.

Valencia, Walcott, Lennon, Arteta,  etc.

That said I love the guy, maybe he will be, but that will take 20 goals next season, and an extra two yards of pace.

How many goals and assist have each of them got and arterta is a right midfielder like kuyt not a winger and majority of his goals are from set peices such as freekicks and penalties

I only hope for Dirks and all our sakes that he continues to play as he has for the last 1/3 of his time at Liverpool and doesn't revert to the the form of his first 2/3. Most notably when he is playing right midfield, he simply MUST score regularly, because if he doesn't then his general play will come under the microscope.

People will try and pretend otherwise of course, but in terms of first touch, awareness, pace, vision and all the rest, he is below the required standard.

to paraphrase, if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

Some posters can a try and pretend otherwise of course, but when you have a player that  scores that many goals, gets that many assists, is rarely injured or rested and makes such a huge contribution to the team - then you simply cannot  suggest he's not good enough.

The guy has scored 1 in 3 league goals in his first  and most recent seasons...and even in his "bad" middle season, got 12 goals (and give the guy a little break-he had major personal problems plus was adapting to a new role with a new striker in the side)

i'd suggest prioritising our criticism towards the underperforming  player on the other wing ... (yet he's graced with a great first touch, and certainly looks the part on the ball :;): )

We'll see Doc :) If the goals dry up next season from this time arounds admittedly impressive haul, then people will begin to look at his general play. If you think his general play is of the required standard, then we'll have to disagree. As for Riera, I share much of your misgivings and think you may have got me mixed up with someone else as I'm by no means the founder member of his fan club.

As for "simply cannot suggest", why?

I think Arbeloa should be giving Kuyt part of his wages , because Kuyt certainly makes his job easier. Kuyt also receives most of the throw ins in the opponents penalty box (winning a considerable number of headers). His work rate is second to none and he creates lots of space with his good movement. He is intelligent enough to come inside at th right time and does this to great effect.

The bad side is that too many moves break down as soon as the ball reaches Kuyt, his first touch is poor and his vision and awareness seem at times to be non-existent.His lack of pace is yet another frustration, as balls played infront of him tend to be a gift to the defence. All too often we see Kuyt passing the ball back when a player is free further forward. His shooting seems more of the "hit and hope" variety than the placed finish and too many time we see him miss hit or miscue when a more "complete" striker would be finding the net.

At the moment his hard work, goals and assists are outweighing his negatives, but for me its still a close call.
