Sunday Mirror

Liverpool will attempt a shock move to re-sign striker Peter Crouch from Portsmouth.

Despite severe financial restrictions in place at Anfield, manager Rafa Benitez will attempt to try to land Crouch for as little as £4million.

The Anfield club are not alone in wanting Crouch.

Five other clubs - Blackburn, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham - have declared their interest in the lanky striker.

But Liverpool have a distinct advantage because Pompey still owe them half of the original £8m transfer fee, which is due to be paid over the next 18 months.

The deal to take Crouch to Fratton Park was spread over the two-and-half years of a four-year contract.

That's why, when Pompey were attempting to deal with a financial crisis a few weeks ago, Liverpool thought they could make a bargain signing.

However, Portsmouth's new wealth under their prospective owner Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim appears to ensure that there is no immediate requirement to sell Crouch.

And even if Pompey decided to cash in on him, they are likely to favour a deal with another club who are prepared to make a far bigger cash offer than Liverpool.

Wouldn't mind having "Plug" back again but doubt if he'd want to return to us .

thanks Ciggy and Woof. :)  i did try to look but i only found articles on us selling him to Potty. :D
im so sad. this is a sad summer. like, i read we're in the red of over 300million? and rafa only has 15million to spend.

here

i feel having crouch will be taking a step back. im unsure of his name, but there is this striker who is doing really well with some german team...wolfsburg i think. anyway, do we even need a striker considering torres and gerrard are playing so well together? almost telepathic.

I wish we had won the EPL and went to the finals for the CL so that we could of had a way better transfer season. Oh well.. this ain't going to stop me supporting Liverpool. I'm happy that Gerrard and Fernando Torres is still with us.

Ive heared we should get Owen back for free, Ze Roberto is out of contract at Munich, Joaquin or Quaresma are possibilities but the Times had quoted from a top spokesperson at Anfield that there is AT LEAST 20 million for Rafa plus sales and the option to increase the spending if Rafa pleads a good case. I can see Lucas, Babel and Dossena going so ill expect about 20 milllion for those 3. Owen back for nothing, David Silva in and that winger from Dortmund were supposedly getting. Cant remember his name though
The devil on the badge represents the equality of manchester united with satan and his many demoish minions downstairs. just like the many twisted devil worshipers accross the world it means you have to posess the same sick minded mentality to follow that pathetic excuse for a football team.

Now that would be an excellent signing.
