The Premiership - General Discussion

Advantage Chelsea but still difficult for them because of the away goal rule. They had 2 walls of four defenders the whole match and gave Barca no space to play at all until the last few minutes. Henry won a definite penalty - maybe not that obvious for the ref and ballack should have been sent off. Made for a fairly boring match but we've done it ourselves in the past.

Hope Barca get them next week. I'd far prefer to see them in the final.

Barca must be kicking themselves tonight. They really should have scored a few tonight.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Yep. Like to see an Arsenal v Barcelona final. That would make for a great game.

Barca tonight were a bit off, I think. Didn't see much from Messi. Chelsea will be happy to get to Stamford Bridge with a 0-0 draw.

Some great work from Cech though, especially stopping Helb.

Barce completely fisted Chelsea tonight.  Hiddink, for all his talk, didn't try to win the game.  They will have to open up a bit at the Bridge (the fans will demand it) and when they do, I fully expect Barce to pick them off.

I predict 1-2 or 2-2 in the 2nd leg and Barce to advance.

think the nil nil is worse than what chelsea think - the only reason it was nil nil was because they put ten men behind the ball and refused to attack bar a couple of skirmishes , they have to score at the beach so they will leave them exposed and can see barce exploiting the space and winning 1 nil or 2 nil .

You have to laugh at ITV trying to pretend that Guus Hiddink got it "tactically right" after the game. I mean if you mean playing Bosingwa, Ballack and Essien out of position and not even trying to attack then maybe, but as a spectacle, Chelsea ruined it.

We played similarly in the Bernebau and Rafa got slaughtered for being negative by some quarters.

i might be wrong but i saw 2 crosses in the whole game both from alves, they would just not cross the ball

i know they are very good with the ball at there feet but i think putting a few crossing in wouldn't have hurt, i have to say i don't watch a lot of bars is this something they do all the time (not putting crosses in i mean ) or did they just not do it for this game thinking that terry or who ever would just take it off the heads of messi henry and eto ??

i have to say there corners were very poor imo maybe that had something to do with it ( in that i mean they are sh8t at crossing the ball? )

anyone else think that?

Crossing is not the continental style in general, mate, and Barcelona really doesn't set up for the cross from wide positions from what I've seen.  I still remember their first-leg match against the Mancs at the Camp Nou last year.  They passed the Mancs off the park with jinky little runs, clever reverse balls and a mesmerizing capacity to vary the tempo of the game to lull their opponents into switching off.  Crossing just isn't part of their 'art'.  With all that said, they do run the risk of coming a cropper with that strategy.  As Arsenal have found out in the past, sometimes you can walk the ball into the net but sometimes you need to be that little bit more direct.
