I am also very interested in any kind of similar data in other countries

I have no idea if more people watch Rugby or Cricket Darts or horse racing in England. Rugby League or F1? Heiniken Cup or Uefa Cup?

I guess for us over here it would be

Football - Prem then CL then FA cup Championship then UEFA
Horse Racing - Grand National - Derby
Rugby - 6 Nations
Cricket - Ashes
Tennis - Wimbledon
Golf - Open - Masters
F1
Rugby League
Darts

But just a pure guess really mate

personally, I thought it would have been lower. It took place mid day during the summer. Terrible time for tv, and it did double what basketball or baseball games normally get.

Are there any numbers for for who watched the finals of the Copa Del Rey or Copa Italia in England?

I highly doubt it mate and dont think italian football is on telly over here and only a small percent of people will watch the spanish football

I am sure the Copa Libertadores final didn't do that great either. So its probably not JUST America that thinks sports end at its borders. Although to be fair I did watch the Rugby League World Cup final and there were loads of English people in the stadium cheering loud for the Kiwis.

I don't know the stats, here in Australia the WC was between 1am and 6am "terrible" hours for workers but I'd hazard a guess that the numbers watched would be slightly higher.

Australia isnt into Soccer as much as Britain, but they are now playing catch-up in terms of providing finance and decent football. Something they were not interested in to long agao.

In the social globalisation of sport I think America contributes the least amongst westernised countries and even some poverty stricken and volatile countries. Thats saying something IMO.
