I think if Alonso IS injured and Lucas DOES play, it once again brings into sharp foucs the decision to sell Keane. If he were still a Liverpool player, I feel sure we would have played him in behind and dropped Gerrard into a more conventional central mid. Still, we move on.

It would be a bit out there, but what's the chances of Rafa playing Kuyt up top with Torres, Masherano and Lucas in the centre and GERRARD RIGHT MIDFIELD?

No chance I hear the cry, but I tell you what stranger things have happened. It'd stop Evra's gallop good and proper, and give us a cast iron gauranteed outball from the left side as well.

Not saying I'd necessarily agree with it, but I could see the validity in it. Gerrard right midfield, and chance?

Your right Mick, stranger things have happend. Gerrard would sniff out Evra, and combat Evra's threat up and down the left side. Gerrard can run all day as Kuyt can, so it will be like for like, with Gerrard having more quality. The one problem, is the creativity in the centre. This is where Lucas , if Alonso is out, can step up to the mark and prove his doubters wrong . Come on Lucas lad, and COME ON YOU RED MEN!

After the way we played against Milan, I would change as little as possible. So I am as happy as I can be under the circumstances with the team.

Like Mick says the option to use Keane would have been nice, but without that option, I suppose it was a straight choice between Babel and Lucas, and playing two up front against the mancs might just be pushing it a little.

I am a little surprised that Riera was actually prefered to Babel after Babels decent performance the other night, as for me Babel may not give as good a balance but offers a much greater threat than Riera.

I still maintain faint hopes that Lucas will come good, and now would be a great time for him to start!

All in all a good team and one that I hope and think will get the job done.

I think we can win this one as long as we arn't playing against the referee as well.  Time for Torres to get off the mark against the mancs, and time we saw another Gerrard thunderbolt to seal the points.

I thought Babel did enough to start against the Mancs as well S@int, but in fairness to Rafa there have been absolutely sh!tloads of cr@p performances before that one so his decision is hard to argue with. It's all very well the Babelians (had to get it in somewhere :D  ) getting all excited, but he'll need a few more perfrormance like that before he's in credit.

To be honest, I don't see us "controlling" the game and nicking a 1-0 at Old Trafford. I think our best shot is to make it like a Cup Final, go for the jugualr and set out to hurt them going forward. I'd like to see the likes of Gerrard and Torres really being pushed on to ask them a question, get a rocket up Lucas's bum and get him away from Mash. Leave the holding job to the Argentine and let Riera, Kuyt, Lucas, Gerrard and Torres do some damage. It mkaes no odds really if we lose 3-0 or draw 0-0. It's kill or be killed, we're wounded and on the ropes and it's our last chance. If we're going to down, lets go down swinging and not walk off thinking we could have given more.

It could be the perfect opportunity to once and for all banish any talk of us being defensive. 3-3 with fifteen minutes to go would suit me, then we could look into the whites of their eyes and properly find out how good they are.

Why play our best offensive (or second best) out wide to snuff out their offensive threat. Keep Kuyt there and with his industry and hard work that will slow down Evra. We are going to need some creativity and Gerrard is more likely than Kuyt. I feel Kuyt defends well enough to stop Evra.

For what it is worth, I think the lads will make us proud. I am a little confused as to why some on here are willing to roll over as soon as they see Lucas is playing. Assuming we would lose before the match even starts is hardly support.

A tight one 1-0 (Masch from 60 yards out before he get's sent off for absolutely nothing)
