Experienced prem winner wanted

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

i know he isn't really a winger, more of a striker, but worth a shout - mauro zarate. remember him? he was on loan at birmingham, was it? and he did well there, scoring quite a few spectacular goals. he has done well at lazio too.

not sure how much he would cost - but maybe he could lend some help to our right wing? or in place of the ineffective keane?

The threads called experienced prem winner wanted right?

Not sure how a players who couldnt make the Birmingham team makes it's way into this thinking

An intelligent, experienced player with good ability. More than capable of linking the play and offers decent-good goal threat. A good quality back up at the very least.

Heinze as cover for Aurelio, great attitude and work ethic, solid defender. Van Bronckhorst would be a possible alternative, except he's much more attacking.

Henry, fairly unlikely but worth a shout for obvious reasons.

Pires is another - Anfield is his favourite away ground, although I see him as 40/1 outsider as he seems settled at Villarreal.

Crespo - there's one to ponder. I wouldn't but not because of a lack of quality.

thats an excellent list...

id have Owen top of that list...probably the most realistic target as well...

One player i'd love to see in our side would have to be Seedorf though... not many in the world with his experience and ability.. Can be used down both flanks...down the middle...no problems..

for left backs with prem experience.. well.. theres Silvinho from Barcelona... absolutely brilliant going forward and can do a job defending aswell...
ALSO... Van bronckhprst also Ex-Arsenal man... very experienced and also very good going forward... both good enough to play at top level...

Rightback its a bit trickier... maybe Cicinho from Roma could do a job...could play higher up down the right aswell... cant think of many others maybe Johnson from Portsmouth or Steinsson of Bolton... dont have all the experience in the world but we need any sort of cover we can get for that right side...

if i had to narrow it down to 3 realistic targets id go for

Owen
Seedorf
Gudjohnsen

But neither Owen or Seedorf has won the prem.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

Requelme, Aimar, Simao, Xavi, Ben Arfa or Martins (possibly more, these are just on page 1) haven't either but you decide to leave those players off from your post of players who haven't won the league. If you're gonna pick holes in people's post for naming players who haven't won the league, then be fair and do it to everybody else who has suggested a player that falls into the same category.

Also instead of just trying to make yourself feel good by pointing out other people's faults, try posting which premiership winner you'd like to see us sign.

There's a good chap. :;):

why would it have to be someone whos one the premierleague ?
if we need an experienced player whos been playing at top level and playing for honours with big game experience then both Owen and seedorf would have all the needed experience theyv both won plenty of title and would improve the squad for latter stages...

id much rather have seedorf over say smertin whos won the league... or fletcher, duff..etc etc

well, mascherano couldn't make it into the west ham first team either. yet we bought him and look how well he has done for us?

i just think that zarate can offer that something different - that spark that may help us break down tough teams who defend en-masse.

yup. for long i have been advocating the signing of Zarate. unfortunately Rafa decided to sign someone who speaks very good english but is not english.

Because if we are still there or there abouts next year I worry some of our lot might bottle it.

So suggestions? I think Heinze & Henry ( on the offal again today :D )

Would be great additions to have.

Any more players to throw into the mix? That people think would make a difference?

I'd love Henry here.  He was probably the best player to ever play in the EPL, his dribbling was just out of this world. I'm sure he'd be a great addition to the team, if he was used upfront.

Alan shearer in his prime  :bowdown

Take nothing away from Henry , what he achieved in this league is unbelievable as well

Heinze is a good shout and maybe Robben as well , straight swap for ryan babel , madrid might just be stupid enough to accept it

I don't think Zarate's going anywhere for some time.  He has settled really well in Italy and also Lazio has just signed him.

I'd personally love it if we went for some players from Inter Milan.   Maxwell, Cruz, Suazo and Adriano are the players that would definitely strengthen our squad.

Agreed.

I think the best two options for us are right under are noses. Owen and Barry
1. They want to come
2. They are quality players with premership experience
3. They are cheap
4. They address weakness' in our squad

All this talk of exotic/obscure players is fun and all but how often do you get quality english players like those two available at a reasonable prices?

I truely believe that if we are still in the race come January, Owen could be the difference between us winning the Prem and
dropping off the pace.

Barry though is cup tied so we could probably wait until Summer. Reportedly he can by out his contract for 2m so he'd be an absolute steal. His ability to play Left Back, Left Midfeilder, Holding Midfeilder and Creative Midfielder all at a high level would be invaluable and it might be worth us putting in a bid in Junuary.

Barry cheap?!? whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Experienced campaigners who've won the Premiership - like SILVESTRE and GALLAS you mean....................? Or maybe even DUFF, ROBBEN, PHIL NEVILLE, SAHA, SMERTIN, GLEN JOHNSON, SOL CAMPBELL, KANU, CIGAN (?) etc

I'm not suggesting we buy those, just pointing out that signing someone who's won the Premiership doesn't necessarily mean you will get a great player. Most are cast off for attitude problems, injury problems or because they're old. It's incomparable with a free because big clubs don't let players leave on frees for no reason. And why should we live in someone else's past? Hoping that the player is as great for us as they were however many years ago they played in a title winning side. Let's sign great players in or approaching their prime, or players in the prime who aren't too old, not pick out someone else's 'legends' - or not in some of the cases I listed

Gary Mc never won the Premiership, pretty sure he was in the 91/92 Leeds side in which case they won the old First Division. Maybe you didn't mean to imply that he did win the Premiership, but you expect the title and first line of a thread to be linked directly. Good player that Gary Mc was, I think some people get a little carried away with him as a ('great') signing. How long did that last? Did it do any longterm good?

agree about Zarate hes exquiste but Mascherano not getting in the team was more about what was happening off the pitch then his ability on it
