What do you mean Saint? He has plenty of policies and strategies. For starters there is a massive tax cut coming for many people. He didnt get elected by talking :censored: policies.

So he "bought" votes by offering tax cuts to the MIDDLE CLASS not the poor ...... THE MIDDLE CLASS.

NOT EXACTLY A REVOLUTIONARY POLICY.

Great idea to reduce taxes and increase spending when the country owes trillions! AND most of that money will no doubt be spent on imported goods.

That's just one of his policies. At the end of the day the majority were tired of the old administration and want a change. it's becasue of the Republican administration that they have gotten themselves (and many other nations) into this financial mess. There is no easy quick fire solution for a problem that was 8 years in the making Saint.

I agree Bav, but for me the answer is not the figurehead but the people who actually run the country. I may be cynical but they all come into office with promises and maybe even good intentions, but by the time the administrators have finished with them they are nothing but the puppets that Lando described.

Maybe OBAMA will be the exception....... but I wouldn't bet tuppence on it mate.

We can only hope mate. Iraq, Afghanistan, the credit crunch, the economic crisis. All these problems were borned in America so we can only hope that this new administration can help sort it out. Unless they fix it we dont have a hope in hell.

It will be interesting to see which way the republican party now goes.McCain is going back in the freezer as he was over thawed. Sarah Palin is more right wing than centre right.

In my lifetime Gorbachev changed the face of the World forever as he was instrumental in the integration of Russia into modern civilisation. Nelson Mandela provided a momentum and a lightening rod for peace and forgiveness long after his reign as South African President had ended. Just occasionally somebody comes along who can see above the parapet, who can reach for the sky and carry people with them.

Like I say I may be wrong but I get the feeling Obama is the real deal. Never before has the World more needed a leader who can lead with inspiration, dignity, undertanding and humility. I listened to his first speech there and he had the tears rolling down me cheeks to tell the truth. Cometh the hour cometh the man and all that stuff, his task is not a small one but my gut feeling is that he is up to it. Good luck to the bloke, we will all benefit in some measure if he can pull it off.

Here, here, mate.  It's a great day for America and for the world--I firmly believe that.  :nod

Iraq maybe but Afghanistan? Hate to break it to you bud but British forces will be involved in operations for at least the next 5 - 10 years. Obama has even said he will be sending more troops to Afghanistan. I feel for you though.

Well I had never thought of that. Myself I dream of the day in which it's not "news" to have a black, white, green or yellow president, in the day where it's not even commented as an anecdote. We should leave past centuries of racial :censored:wittery behind, and consider all human kind the same.

I was very surprised to see black people in America going as crazy as they did. It was if they announced reparations or something.  Obama has no ties to slavery and he came of age after the main struggles of the civil rights movement, and was raised mostly by his White grandparents and mother.  Normally Blacks vote 90:10  Dem to republican, but this election was something around 150-200:1  Thats crazy. And McCain is a moderate republican.

Also, I found it very strange when Black people celebrated the O.J. Simpson verdict, after he committed double murder and got off.

In case people were wondering I voted for Bob Barr, and I voted for slot machines in race tracks in Maryland AND IT PASSED!!!!!!!

Obama has LOTS of real beliefs and convictions. However, his voting record was waaaaaay to liberal to win a general election so he had to move a lot towards the center and talk above politics to not lose. Because that was all that was recquired of the Dems, don't :censored: it up. And to be fair to Obama, his ground campaign was top notch, and that is what really helped him beat Clinton, plus he had the best internet following.

Also what was a surprise to me was that if this was supposed to be emphatic victory that signaled a major shift in the ideology of the American people, then why did so many bans on gay marraige get passed to sooo many state constitutions on the same night?

When you think about ALLLLLLLL the factors that were in favor of the Dems in this election, you would have thought the popular vote would be a 10 point + margin

McCain won Misouri which had picked the winner in almost every election in the past 100 years. Some will say its a surprise that Obama won VA and NC, but if you look at how those states have changed demographically, it makes sense that those should be Blue States now. NC has a lot of banking, black people, tech, and research. and the Washington DC suburbs in VA have gotten huge and that has always been democratic territory.

And McCain would have CRUSHED a state like New Mexico if his party didn't make him change his ideas on immigration reform.
