The pastor of that church said a few silly things. I think it was the term "white man" or something similar. Anyway Obama distanced himself from from that Church and Pastor quickly aftewards. To be honest I dont think that's even a big deal if you consider the Bush family fortune was finainced by Nazi money. His great grandfather was a Nazi sympathiser ffs. lol

In my lifetime Gorbachev changed the face of the World forever as he was instrumental in the integration of Russia into modern civilisation. Nelson Mandela provided a momentum and a lightening rod for peace and forgiveness long after his reign as South African President had ended. Just occasionally somebody comes along who can see above the parapet, who can reach for the sky and carry people with them.

Like I say I may be wrong but I get the feeling Obama is the real deal. Never before has the World more needed a leader who can lead with inspiration, dignity, undertanding and humility. I listened to his first speech there and he had the tears rolling down me cheeks to tell the truth. Cometh the hour cometh the man and all that stuff, his task is not a small one but my gut feeling is that he is up to it. Good luck to the bloke, we will all benefit in some measure if he can pull it off.

Here here. I got emotional myself watching that speech. It was also emotional watching all those people rejoice. Never before have I witnessed such scenes of jubilation after a president has been elected.

Yeah it was a great speech. I liked whole way he used that 102 year old women and what she had lived through with the constant "yes we can".

I was moved to see Jesse Jackson crying too. I bet he never dreamed this day would come.

I read an African citizen living in my country complaining in the newspaper today.

He claims that Obama is not black, he's a mix (a mulato) because his parents have different colours of skin. He claims then that he can't be considered black. He blames us the whites, of calling black whatever it's not pure white. He says Obama is as white, as black. If he's not white, he's not black either.

Well I had never thought of that. Myself I dream of the day in which it's not "news" to have a black, white, green or yellow president, in the day where it's not even commented as an anecdote. We should leave past centuries of racial :censored:wittery behind, and consider all human kind the same.

There will always be people who are scared. People who dont understand someone or something ultimatley fear then and that leads to hatred. America is a big place and there are still hordes of right wing supporters

I dont know what part race he is but I know he is part Kenyan. What you have to remember is that many people were cynical of his lead in the polls dimissing them with the notion that 'Bradley Syndrome' would again rear it's ugly head. The fact that more white people voted for Obama than voted for Kerry or even Gore shows that this time it is different. I'm not saying that race is no longer a problem in the states but that portion which might have turned the other way at the last mintue with Bradley Syndrome decided not to and Obama deserves massive applause for that.

I didn't like either of them. McCain is way too old at 72 (maybe I am ageist) and Obama seems an empty suit, no real beliefs, policies or convictions. Politics now seems more about how much money they can spend to get elected and less about what they can do to make life better for everyone. They have advisors coming out of their a$$holes and can't even get dressed in a morning without asking if the underpants go inside or outside!

What do you mean Saint? He has plenty of policies and strategies. For starters there is a massive tax cut coming for many people. He didnt get elected by talking :censored: policies.

So he "bought" votes by offering tax cuts to the MIDDLE CLASS not the poor ...... THE MIDDLE CLASS.

NOT EXACTLY A REVOLUTIONARY POLICY.

Great idea to reduce taxes and increase spending when the country owes trillions! AND most of that money will no doubt be spent on imported goods.
