Meanwhile, Eccleston, who features for the Reds U-18’s and reserves, is also reported to be on Ince’s radar. The 17-year-old striker is highly-rated by the Merseysiders for his ability and hunger for goals. As such, the Reds are likely to ward off any attempt by the rivals to capture the Manchester-born player.

See the Youth developement thread mate. There's apparently been a big bust up or something.

Liverpool want Emile Heskey back at Anfield after England heroics

The England striker will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season and that has aroused interest at Anfield.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is considering bringing back the former Liverpool player in a cut-price deal.

Heskey knows he is in a great position regarding his future because he has just six months left on his current contract.

Asked whether other clubs will take notice, Heskey said yesterday: "Yeah, I hope so. It's a nice situation that I'm in but I'm still a Wigan player and I want to do my best for them.

"Everyone wants to be playing on these big stages and for their club to be in the Champions League."

Benitez is aware he could either get Heskey for a small fee in January or for nothing at the end of the season. The Liverpool boss sold Heskey to Birmingham back in 2004, but that deal was brokered by predecessor Gerard Houllier before his arrival on Merseyside.

Benitez has been impressed with the way Heskey has rebuilt his career since being shown the exit at Liverpool. The burly striker has forced his way back into the England side since arriving at Wigan and produced a string of impressive performances under Fabio Capello.

It would not be the first time the Liverpool manager has brought back a former player - Robbie Fowler's return to Anfield was a major surprise too.

And Benitez sees the possible capture of Heskey as a similar deal.

But he could face competition from Tottenham and Aston Villa.

-------------

If we could get him on a free transfer I'd say definately!

very useful player to have. He's got more to his game than he did years ago when he was here last. Though I dont know if he'd be happy with the amount of playing time he'd get at anfield being behind Torres and Keane in the peacking order

Agreed.  He'd be a shrewd purchase at that kind of price and it would be interesting to see what he could offer us the second time around.  Not the most skillful striker ever, of course, and a real confidence player but, on his day, he's a good battering ram centre forward that does the grunt work so his strike partner can shine.

Much better rumour..... this is a player we could really USE

Spanish radio has reported that Liverpool have been making enquiries about the availability of Real Madrid star Arjen Robben. Although neither the clubs nor the player have made any comments, it is not to be ignored.

Given Rafa Benitez’s opinion of the winger this would be a shock move, although a move might be beneficial for all parties as Liverpool do appear to be lacking strength on the wings and Robben has expressed his dissatisfaction at his current club. However, the 24 year old is currently undergoing a medical for a thigh injury in Real Madrid’s derby against Atletico Madrid, which is his sixth injury since he joined Real in August 2007. Perhaps a Liverpool signing for the injury prone star would be a poor decision. It is also unclear how such a move could be financed without selling a few playerslink

I think he's class on his day... but from the sounds if it he's spent more time in the physio room than michael owen... and is nearing Harry Kewel's world record.

weighing it up, I think I'd rather have a free heskey as a third choice striker than an expensive Robben who will keep the physio busier than the opposition defenders.

I must admit he sounds like he could give Kewell a run for his money in terms of injuries. Quality player who would certainly add to the team, but would seem to be a huge gamble fitness wise. Maybe we should just go for Owen instead   :D

Agreed he's a class player when he is actually on his feet and not rolling round on the floor.

If it's true I'm a bit surprised that Real are looking or willing to let him go as they are nearly as lacking as we are in the wingers department and many in Spain believe they need to add to their width than reduce it.

we get robben and we'd have a great great lineup imo.. a defender or two away from being the best starting lineup in the league...

robben,alonso,mascherano,gerrard,riera,babel,pennant...torres,keane,kuyt upfront... now that would be a side with options upfront ! would take him for anything if we can afford him !
