Watched one called 'THE GOOD GERMAN' last night on $KY. It's an adaptation of a very good book by Joseph Kanon about a U.S. Reporter in Berlin just after the end of WWII in europe. He's there primarily to report on the allied leaders Conference at Pottsdam but is soon trying to find out why his Army driver has been washed up dead on the river banks outside the conference venue and the Americans, British and Russians are after his German former lover whom he's met again.

It's a very good book but as usual the film adatptation is poor in comparison. George Clooney plays the U.S. reporter with Cate Blanchett (sporting a very dodgy German accent) plays his old lover and Toby Maguire is the Army driver. You sense very little chemistry amongst the main characters especially Clooney and Blanchett and by the end you feel like saying 'so what' for their predicament.
The film is made in an old 40's style which for me detracts from the story as you lose the feel of the destruction that Berlin has suffered and Soderbergh (director) has spent more time tweaking the look of his black and white picture than getting good performances out of his actors and ends up bringing us a very poor film.

Watched You , me and Dupree last night , came out in 2006 . It's a good show and i really enjoyed owen wilson's acting in it . Has its moments , and it is quite hilarious , certain parts had me in stitches . 7.5/10

Also watched glory road , its about a former girl's coach being the first coach to play a full team of black players in his basketball team which caused an uproar . The players had a hard time dealing with hostile crowds were targeted by people and faced quite a bit of difficulties . deffo worth a watch . 8/10

woof woof ! wrote:"In Bruges" , don't normally like Colin Farrells movies but found this small budget "dark comedy" absolutely hilarious. Some great laugh out loud one  liners in the movie, a dwarf on speed and Ralph Fiennes as a physco gang boss (along the lines of ben kingsly in sexy beast) made it one of the most entertaining films I've seen this year.

the incidental comedy is brilliant. The film is riddled with ridiculous twists, slapstick violence and barmy cameos. McDonagh has never knowingly let good taste interfere with a thoroughly offensive joke. Jordan Prentice’s American midget is mercilessly thrown about from one end of the film to the other. Lard-arsed Americans die of heart attacks. A prissy antismoking couple are knocked clean out. Homosexual skinheads are blinded. When all’s said and done, it’s a wonderfully absurd film. McDonagh is never stuck for a brilliant kiss-off line. I doubt he’ll ever be stuck for an audience either.

TRAILER

Finally saw this tonight and thought it was absolute class.  :bowdown

Agree about Colin Farrell.  I usually find him annoying but, fair play, he was very good in this one.  (He totally reminded me of Dougal off Father Ted at times, too! :D )  Brendan Gleeson was brilliant as usual and it was nice to see Ralph Fiennes having some fun for a change.  Full marks for the music and cinematography as well--excellent work on both fronts, as they completely 'play against type', given the gangster movie theme.

Woof's mention of Sexy Beast reminds me how long it's been since I've seen that one...another low-key classic!  :buttrock
