Galatasaray have made a £2million move for Liverpool goalkeeper Charles Itandje — scuppering Scott Carson's chances of a permanent exit from Anfield in the process.
Former French Under-21 international Itandje, who joined Liverpool from Lens last summer, has agreed a three-year contract with the Turkish champions.
Itandje, 25, made only seven appearances last season — none of them in the Premier League — as cover for Pepe Reina but Liverpool now need to bring in a replacement.
Veteran Bordeaux goalkeeper Ulrich Rame, 35, has been mentioned but otherwise Rafa Benitez wants to keep hold of Carson.
Despite interest from Middlesbrough and Stoke to take him on loan, Benitez has made it clear that he will only let Carson leave on a permanent deal — valuing the England international at £6m.
That has prompted Stoke to offer £1m for Sunderland goalkeeper Marton Fulop instead. Roy Keane will reluctantly sell the 25-year-old but wants double that amount. He turned down a £500,000 offer from Leicester last season.
Grant Leadbitter meanwhile has signed a new three-year dealt at the Stadium of Light. The 22-year-old is now Sunderland’s longest serving player and Keane said: ‘He’s got quality and he’s enthusiastic, he’s a good character. He’s developing and maturing well.’

We clearly have teams interested in Carson and a deal to sell him looks likely this summer. Why then go and sell Itanje for £2m?? That means that we wont sell Carson until we have a replacement. We'll get £5m+ for Carson yet we've cashed in £2m for Itanje...I would've waited to see what happened with Carson before moving Itanje on!!

Another way to look at it, mate, is to recognize that teams knew we were desperate to sell Carson and thus figured they could get him at a knock-down price. With Itandje gone--and I agree completely with John that he was a horror show as back-up that needed to be moved on ASAP--we look like we may need Carson and thus can actually flog him for a better price. I suspect we've got something in the works with one of the veteran premiership keepers (names like Niemi and Maik Taylor keep floating about) or could do a deal for one of those lads relatively quickly if we found a buyer for Carson. Worst case scenario is that we use him as a back-up this year and try and get something for him next summer.

Good point well presented![]()
It's probably a statement from Rafa to say we don't need to sell Carson so if you want him you need to pay decent ££.

Not a type of striker we are looking for, same class as voronin.thats a good one tell me another , polodski is excellent , i don't know why you don't rate him , got a great left foot , plays with so much drive and determination , can't believe that he spent most of the season on the bench for bayern
If u watched him for Bayern last season u would of seen why they signed Toni and Klose. Podolski has bee poor at Bayern since he left cologne. in 06-07 season he really struggled and didnt score enough. There is no comparison to what Toni done in his first season at Bayern and what Podolski did in his 1st season.
Its not a surprise he spent last year on the bench at all!!

that team had Roque Santa Cruz, Claudio Pizzaro, and Roy Makaay on it as well. And the whole squad struggled that season. I think he needs a change in scenery. He clearly posses talent, his goalscoring record for his country is extraordinary, and he has set up quite a few goals this tournament as well, and all of this on the back of having no club form to speak of. And he did something similar two summers ago, so he isn't a one time wonder, and he only just turned 23, and like I have said earlier, if we sign him, I think he instantly takes over for Babel in the 4-2-3-1 if we stick with it. His goal tally is nearly equally split between right and left and can send in crosses with either as well.
