Also, some of Fifa's harshest critics have been floored by it and forced to admit that it is indeed a PES killer. For a game to talked about as a potential GOTY, especially a football game, is something special. I personally can't wait to see what it's like. From what I've read, so far it's everything I've always wanted in a football game. We shall see. Seabass has his work cut out.

I bought FIFA last year. It's the first time I've bought it for years, being an ardent Pro fan, but last years games certainly bridged the gap. I've been hoping that this was not just a flash in the pan, but a foundation to build an even better game.
Hopefully these personal bugbears have been addressed:
Not enough stadia
No evening games in career mode
No varying weather in career mode
Finals not being played at neutral venues (and FA Cup semi finals)
No cut scenes or celebration scenes when a trophy is won (I wouldn't mind seeing my captain lift the cup when I've flogged my guts out to achieve it)

As for the gameplay, FIFA 08 was almost there, it would merely need a tweak.

They say they are adding all these things you've stated, and more. A lot more. Most importantly, they are refining the gameplay yet again, and it's been said that responsiveness (my main gripe of 08) has  been vastly improved on. Ball physics are also being massively improved on, and it's said the ball now carries a certain weight about it, so shooting feels a lot more satisfying and realistic, kind of like the old PES only a lot more realistic. Apparently running on to shots and vollying feels great. There are hundreds of new animations, and it's said that if your player gets tackled, but doesn't get caught on his standing leg, you can either try to stay on your feet, or simply let him fall. The pitch also cuts up when playing in really wet conditions and continues to deteriorate. There is a real time light cycle, and dynamic snow and rain effects. Player models have been considerably improved on, and it's claimed that they now boast amazing player likeness. Thank :censored:. This was my major complaint about Fifa's graphics. The players looked awful. 10v10 online also.

If all these things are true and not just EA (or someone else) blowing smoke up our a$ses, then Fifa 09 could be something special indeed.

It's all over the net, mate. On the Fifa boards and Winning Eleven blogs. PSM3 Magazine have played it, and they are saying some promising things about it, including the statement about the new revolutionary feature, whatever that is. Go to Fifa Soccer Blog and read about it.

Weather effects are...well, just a bit of an extra touch that adds to the atmosphere. But i really doubt the inclusion of 'Dynamic snow effects' are going to set the pulses racing in a footy game. Can do without it i reckon. Stick to rain and hard/soft pitch surfaces etc. But snow?

Is easier and cheaper and with more well known algorythms rather than they focus on the game's IA.

Useless details that add little to the gameplay, those details you say "oh nice" the first time, forget about them soon enough.

Being a 8 bit gamer myself, I still find more fun in an old Manic Miner game than in these games full of details :D

Clasics or not Sabre - you know your stuff mate. Its gameplay that takes the hit now, over graphics. Can't say i'd be too tempted to go back to 8 or 16 bit games though...  :D

It actually does if it impacts the gameplay in some form or another. ISS 98 on the N64 had something like this. Rain that made the players on the pitch fall all over the place. Defenders sometimes falling on their backs letting you clean through. Weather can make a huge difference in game play if done properly. Too often these days it's just for aesthetics rather than actual effect.

I was having a mooch around Widnes market last Wednesday, they have a load of second hand stalls outside. I was very tempted to buy a megadrive, but the games were :censored: that came with it - no FIFA 95, no NHLPA 93 and no Desert Strike  :(

I've got a SNES and it's still ace to play some of the classics like Mario All Stars, NBA Jam, etc  :bowdown
