if you havnt played it but you have played HL2 then its very similar so far.

Crysis is renowned for needing a HIGH SPEC pc, you need a NASA pc to get it running smooth.

Neil: Assassins Creed does look awesome but it's boring and repetitive, also Libery City has far more detail and GTA is a bigger game in general   :;):

ffs paul stop having an issue with everything I say, red & daxy arent gonna love you anymore as a result. AC mechanics are so smooth in comparison, GTA 4 gameplay and nuances are superb-I've even watched the telly in the room for an hour- but the graphics and mechanics are terrible. Also the world of GTA 4 is not any bigger than all the real 1191AD cities of Assassins Creed.

???

The graphics in GTA 4 are terrible? Spec Savers for you! Book an appointment ASAP!  GTA 4's graphics are stunning IMO. I don't have a f'cking clue what people are looking at in GTA4 and think that it looks terrible, because overall I'd go as far as saying that it's one of the best looking games ever made.

check out the xbox forums, thread after thread of graphics complaints, are you playin on an xbox or ps3? btw you went overboard with the ridicule, are you a fanboy?

Yeah, sorry about that. It was tongue in cheek, honest. No, but seriously, other people's opinions on that mean sh*t to me (Xbox forums). They're just either nitpicking, or just disappointed because their expectations fell short. These consoles are still way behind from reaching that graphical ceiling, when people still think it's been hit. I'm not a "fan boy". I do have eyes, however; and I do understand the concessions it took for the artists to get GTA 4 looking how it does. People forget: this is a fully rendered city with traffic and people walking about. For this game to look as good as it does is amazing, and I always say that no matter how many polygons and super detailed textures with all kinds of post processing effects added in, if you don't have the right light in any form of art, it's going to look flat and lifeless. GTA 4 has one of the best lighting models I've ever seen in any game. It's the lighting that's made games like COD 4 and PGR 4 look so good. Those games aren't brilliant technically; they just have a brilliant lighting engine. In fact, people don't realize, but COD4 is just a modified Quake 3 engine. Hardly cutting edge.

Seriously, I fail to see what people are b*tching about with GTA4's visuals. It's annoying.

Btw neil...when did you move to Runcorn  ???

Shadows, aye; lighting... ???

The lighting is fantastic.

Some shadows have that frayed edge to them that flickers. It's just Rockstar freeing up some extra juice to get the FPS smoother. I'd rather they did that than have a really choppy frame rate.

Oh, BTW, it helps if you adjust the gamma, brightness settings in the game up a notch or two, and put the saturation right up in the game settings.

I mean lighting as in: The menu/interior shots etc..Outside in the game world the light is fine (rockstar use a lot of filter effects anyway) But there isn't much of a problem there beyond a tweak or three. Ingame i have this combo: B = 9, C = 8 and S(aturation) set about 7. Which 'roughly' covers my needs. Its when i access the menu or go into the inside of buildings that i feel myself wanting to crank everything way up...

In truth it maybe a combination of a number of things. Not least the endless configurations my new telly is able to offer. After 2 months i STILL havn't decided on a near-perfect setup. So....

I'm a PC graphics whore and just before I played GTAIV I had been playing Oblivion at max settings with 8AA and 16AF at 1080p with loads of texture packs and believe me, that game looks amazing. I had also been playing Crysis at 1280 x 1020 with 2AA and 8AF at High settings so when I first loaded up GTAIV my eyes nearly burned from all the shimmering, LOD and aliasing "problems". However, now that I have played the game a lot I can actually say that I think GTAIV has the best graphics yet in a computer game. Yes, when it eventually comes to PC you'll have higher resolutions, no aliasing, no texture or shadow shimmering, insane draw distances and no texture pop up, but hand on heart, I doubt I've ever seen better art direction and use of colour and light in a game. Full stop. I love the look of GTAIV: it perfectly balances the depiction of reality yet with a beautiful dream like blending of colours and light to give a terrific movie style rendering. Love it!

I agree - in part - with what Neil is saying. Assasins Creed probably has even better graphics - especially in its character models - and in some respects it handles crowds better, but I still GTAIV's art direction and art style which has hit the nail perfectly on the head.

Its not always about the technical brilliance of the graphics - for me Crysis has the best graphics around (well, technically thats pretty much fact at the time of writing) - but its graphical style and art direction leaves me cold.

However, if you want to see AMAZING graphics, check out the trailer for S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky which I posted earlier in this thread.

Never mind the Graphics ! :D Does anyone else think the controls ( driving/shooting/fighting ) are awkward and let the game down, in a game that relies on these actions you would think they would have sorted them out ffs.

Or is it just me ( I switched to classic) :;):

The thing that people dont seem to grasp here is that GTA is that big of a game with so much detail that of course some things will be a little rough around the edges, it's of the biggest game releases to date so like Halo 3 their will be people out there who slate it for the sake of it and to be different than the others who like it.

imo its one of the best around to date, it's got everything, it's a driving game, shooter, it has some mini games, etc, yeah ok not everything is perfect but I don't expect it to be, especially since the 360 does have it's limitation, like JBG said when it's released on the PC I'm sure it will look even better but that will be on a system that costs probably 3 or 4 times more than a 360 :;):

All in all I'm happy with it and those who disagree can suck a d1ck :p :D

If you check your email, Brucie keeps sending you emails asking you to bring him various vehicles, one of those is a Sanchez. Personally though, I think they're a shit bike.
