Apparently the game has a new revolutionary feature in it that some publications are tipping it for game of the year. Also, some of Fifa's harshest critics have been floored by it and forced to admit that it is indeed a PES killer. For a game to talked about as a potential GOTY, especially a football game, is something special. I personally can't wait to see what it's like. From what I've read, so far it's everything I've always wanted in a football game. We shall see. Seabass has his work cut out.
I bought FIFA last year. It's the first time I've bought it for years, being an ardent Pro fan, but last years games certainly bridged the gap. I've been hoping that this was not just a flash in the pan, but a foundation to build an even better game.
Hopefully these personal bugbears have been addressed:
Not enough stadia
No evening games in career mode
No varying weather in career mode
Finals not being played at neutral venues (and FA Cup semi finals)
No cut scenes or celebration scenes when a trophy is won (I wouldn't mind seeing my captain lift the cup when I've flogged my guts out to achieve it)
As for the gameplay, FIFA 08 was almost there, it would merely need a tweak.
They say they are adding all these things you've stated, and more. A lot more. Most importantly, they are refining the gameplay yet again, and it's been said that responsiveness (my main gripe of 08) has been vastly improved on. Ball physics are also being massively improved on, and it's said the ball now carries a certain weight about it, so shooting feels a lot more satisfying and realistic, kind of like the old PES only a lot more realistic. Apparently running on to shots and vollying feels great. There are hundreds of new animations, and it's said that if your player gets tackled, but doesn't get caught on his standing leg, you can either try to stay on your feet, or simply let him fall. The pitch also cuts up when playing in really wet conditions and continues to deteriorate. There is a real time light cycle, and dynamic snow and rain effects. Player models have been considerably improved on, and it's claimed that they now boast amazing player likeness. Thank

If all these things are true and not just EA (or someone else) blowing smoke up our a$ses, then Fifa 09 could be something special indeed.
