Liverpool to bid for £40m pair: These two are world class!

April 17, 2008

Rafa Benitez may be getting angry about Liverpool’s owners and the way they have mistreated him but that hasn’t stopped the excellent manager from planning ahead - and these two targets would be a fantastic capture.

Benitez is interested in Lyon pair Karem Benzema and Hatem Ben Arfa. The £40m rated pair are also high up on the Arsenal summer signing wish list (various)

Both players have great potential and are pretty much almost as good as it gets in their respective positions. Do Liverpool need both or either? What do Anfield supporters think?

Liverpool interested in £18m defender? He’s one of the best in the world!

April 17, 2008

News has filtered through that Liverpool are again after Roma’s excellent if slightly unsubtle centre-back Philippe Mexes. Could the decision to talk up this ‘almost’ move be a cleverly orchestrated repeat attempt on behalf of the Frenchman?

The Roma defender’s agent has revealed he came close to joining Liverpool. Olivier Jeanneaux said: “When he was considered fourth-choice defender at Roma we received an offer from Liverpool. He could have joined Liverpool on-loan, but he told me he did not want to leave because he loved the city and the club so much.” (various)

Do Liverpool need more talent in their defence? If such a bid did come about and note also other top Serie A clubs are apparently linked with the 26-year-old French international, including leaders Inter Milan and struggling AC.

Is the January capture of Skrtel all the tinkering that Rafa needed to do in the centre-back department?

Liverpool's Benitez gives Villa first option on duo in Barry talks
tribalfooball.com - April 17, 2008

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is ready to discuss a swap deal with Aston Villa for their skipper Gareth Barry.

The Sun says Benitez has contacted Villa boss Martin O'Neill and has told him he can have first option on the likes of Peter Crouch and John Arne Riise as part of a possible player-exchange deal.

O'Neill is keen on both but Portsmouth are pushing hard for Crouch and Newcastle want Riise.

Benitez is ready to pay £12million if no exchange can be worked out.

Benitez monitoring Argentine ace?

April 17, 2008

Liverpool alongside Newcastle, Portsmouth and Sunderland are all monitoring the progress of Mauro Zarate, according to Sky Sports.

The Argentine has already wowed the Birmingham fans since moving from Qatarian outfit Al-Sadd on loan in January. He has already got 4 goals in 4 league starts.

Al-Sadd has put a price tag of £15million on Zarate and Birmingham would have difficulty retaining his services. That would prompt other bigger clubs to price away the Argentinean.

That's a lot of rumors Tofferhater!  But I think that half of those are completely made up, especially the one about Mexes.

Is it just me that this is totally underwhelmed with the Barry story???

He is no better than Alonso or Masch...and I'm not sure I would play him ahead of Lucas either.....

£12m for Barry...are you 'avin a laff???

Surely we can do better than that.   :Oo:  :(

Nah Barry would be a good signing for around 10-12 million. As would Bentley and if this Benzema thing has any merit could be an interesting summer.

I think he would play LB anyway, In the Premier League he would definately be a better option than Alonso/Lucas in CM.

Barry's solid, no question, but better than Alonso at CM?  At what exactly?  No, for me, even a below-par Alonso offers more in central midfield than Barry.

Alonso wont be at LFC next season so no point having this discussion, he is not the player he was 2 years ago.

Better at What? Barry has 8 goals and 7 assists in the league this season that might be a start.

Liverpool have signed Pedro Alcala from Real Madrid 18 years old.

From the Skysports website today:

Amauri's agent has confirmed that Arsenal have joined the race to sign the highly-rated striker.

Italian sources claimed earlier this week that Arsenal were ready to offer the Brazilian-born front-man more than £60,000-per-week to move to Emirates Stadium.

Juventus had been leading the race to land the 27-year-old, ahead of Real Madrid and Liverpool - who have also made offers for the player.

But now Arsenal have made a late bid to land the striker - who Palermo value at £19million (25million euros).

Gunners interest

"Arsenal is now another team added to the list of teams interested in Amauri," the player's agent Mariano Grimaldi told Terra Brazil.

"We have already received proposals from Liverpool and Real Madrid, in addition to what we already had from Juventus."

Amauri will soon be eligible for an Italian passport, which as well as making him eligible to play for the Azzurri, will mean he can move to the Premier League without any work-permit issues.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
