Barry would be a good signing.  He would be better than any of our left backs, better than any of our left midfielders and a decent option as one of the sitting midfielders in a 4-2-3-1.  Most importantly though he offers something we don't have - good delivery from set-pieces.

Agreed on Lahm.
Sell Alonso and bring in Barry, that is ok with me.

Bentley for the right wing/support striker.

:censored: it throw in Jacquin (spelling) aswell.

Can someone please tell how Barry would improve our team, besides the set pieces?  We need technically gifted players in our system not big anti-footballers.

its all well and good to say that we want Lahm, but just someone on here saying that they want it to happen doesn't make it a rumor, I know a lot of the stuff that makes it on here is pretty flimsy, but I would like to think that there is some kind of press out there somewhere behind it instead of just some bloke thinking it would be a good idea.

If your refering to me 'who wants Lahm' read back a few pages and there was a pie in the sky rumour.

Oh and thanks for implying where and when we should post.

sorry must have missed (or forgot) the bit on us being interested in Lahm.

I was just saying that we have loads of other threads about next seasons XI and your ideal buys and the like, and I thought this thread was supposed to be more for stuff found in the press, or overheard from tealadys and the like.

Ciggy wrote:Liverpool ready to offer £12m for Manchester City Michael Johnson
By ALAN BIGGS - Daily Mail » Last updated at 21:50pm on 14th April 2008

Rafael Benitez has launched a £12million move to sign Manchester City's Michael Johnson in the summer.

It is the Liverpool boss's third attempt to take the 20-year-old midfielder to Anfield and evidence that the Spaniard is intent on building up his squad, despite the shadow of power politics that is threatening his long-term tenure.

Liverpool renewed their approach to City in the past few days and negotiations are at an advanced stage, with Johnson's heart set on a switch that was first mooted about a year ago.

Benitez is committed to capturing Johnson whether or not Sven Goran Eriksson succeeds in tempting Peter Crouch to Eastlands in a swap proposal that was set up to take place in January.

The exchange was put on ice when Johnson underwent surgery on a groin injury and Portsmouth have since mounted an attempt to lever Crouch from Eriksson's grasp.

But Benitez wants Johnson anyway and will offer either straight cash or players in part-exchange.

Johnson was the subject of a bid by Benitez last summer, but the deal was blocked by Eriksson.

The player remains desperate to move to Anfield, despite having three years left on his City contract.

City will offer Johnson an improved contract, but the youngster is determined that he will be playing Champions League football next season.

Looks a real prospect, this lad. Well worth the gamble I reckon.

He's the closest thing I've seen to a young Gerrard in recent years and he won't be at City much longer regardless.

Would probably mean Alonso leaving though.

I don't get how all this transfer talk can be banded around, we don't even know who is going to own the club or who will be managing come next season, never mind what players are coming in or going. ??? :(

tribalfootball.com - April 15, 2008

The agent of Roma defender Philippe Mexes has revealed he came close to joining Liverpool.

Olivier Jeanneaux said: "When he was considered fourth-choice defender at Roma we received an offer from Liverpool. He could have joined Liverpool on-loan, but he told me he did not want to leave because he loved the city and the club so much."

Liverpool will renew their interest in bringing the talented Michael Johnson to Anfield. The Manchester City midfielder has caught the eye of Rafa Benitez and his fellow scouts and it already had an offer rejected previously.

Reports in The Daily Mail are saying that Rafa Benitez is willing to offer out-of-favour Peter Crouch in a swap deal for Johnson. It is known that Sven has been wanting to sign Crouch ever since the January transfer window. Would he find this too good to refuse?

Johnson who was onced a schoolboy at Everton signed for Man City in 2004. He was part of the Manchester City youth team which reached the 2006 FA Youth Cup final.

He has had an impressive season despite being kept on the sidelines due to an injury.
