Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

All the boardroom strife could hamper the transfer targets Benitez wants to sign in the summer. We are according to some pundits "only a couple of signings away from winning the league" yet every season we seem to get no closer. The manager dosent seem to be the problem & is regarded as one of the best in the buisness, so what is it? A lack of desire from the players or that even after all these years in the wilderness we still rest on or past glories? Liverpool FC has been in my blood since I was born & I love them as much as anything I can think of but sometimes the players on the pitch sem to lack the drive the fans have in the stands. On paper our first eleven is as good as anything anyone else can throw at us yet year after year we are left clinging onto a cup at the seasons end. Are we only a few players away from the prize that all Liverpool fans want returned back where it belongs or does it go deeper than that? This summer, boardroom issues aside the manager will buy a few players that he believes will get us back where we belong I for one pray they will.

Stability. Thats all. Arsenal and United have been given the chance for the new signings to bed in and be given the time to both adapt and prove themself. With liverpool you have to show some sign or be shipped off. The mentioning of the board and transfer funds is your main point but how about this, the support for rafa? the support for his signings? Why is it when the team go on a slump, its rafas fault, or indeed he signs players that are not up for the job? Would babel do better in the arsenal shirt? would lucas do better in a utd shirt? of course they would, stability is needed, with supporters, the team and indeed the backroom staff, but we demand success instantly, its not easy being in charge of the most successful club in britain, as rafa has found out.
Bill Shankly: “I was the best manager in Britain because I was never devious or cheated anyone. I’d break my wife’s legs if I played against her, but I’d never cheat her.”

we need former Liverpool captain Tommy Smith.

Do you think he'd allow players to coast through games, showing no desire or pride? Would he :censored:, he'd be giving them the bollocking they deserve. I don't mean as a manager, but around the club to ensure that players can't come off the pitch saying they "could of given more"
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

didn't he just suffer some heart problems over the summer? not sure that would be "what the doctor ordered" for him.

Steve McMahon, Tommy Smith, Phil Thompson and John Aldridge...could you imagine any player playing badly and having to walk into a dressing room with those four waiting to greet you.

You'd be petrified to play badly.

With all the current problems we might be flooded with money in the close season. Both owners want to win over the fans & the only way that is happening is if Liverpool finally buy the players needed to help the club challenge for the elusive title we all crave so badly. Even with all this rubbish going on if we can get the new stadium built we will sort out any money issues just through revenue. Personally I feel this current atmostphere could actually benifit the club in the future.

Think we do need someone on our bench who is/was a big name in our glory days to remind the lads they have done nothing yet compared to his days, someone who all used to look up to, why is Rush never seen on the bench?
