They say he can't win the league because..... He can't compete with the big spending of the mancs and Chelsea ....... Thats not going to change unless DIC come in and do an Abramovich.

They say that Rafa can't compete with Fergie and Wenger because Fergie and Wenger has been in the job much longer than Rafa ........ thats not going to change until they retire.

They say that injuries have cost us our title challenge..........Thats not going to change, we will get injuries every season every team does.

So I ask again what reasons make you believe that Rafa will win the league (not counting blind optimism and faith)

Yes, and Jamie Redknapp knows what it takes from experience to win the title. People in glass houses and all that bollox.

I hope that's sarcasm because Redknapp never won the league title with Liverpool.

I think the "People in glass houses and all that bollox" shows it was sarcasm mate.

I think Jamie did win the league once....... the league cup  :D

Yeah Jamie won the Coca-Cola cup in 95 against Bolton, as well as the Worthington Cup in 01. With two FA Cups (92,01) and a UEFA thrown in as well in 01.

Perhaps Redknapp should have said that we are no closer to winning the league than we where when he played, well on occasion, for Liverpool.

As captain I recall his pre season comments on how it was going to be Liverpools year this year (sounds familiar now right) but it fizzled out, then as now, into another year of dissapointment and underachivement.

I guess you could argue that after 18 years without finishing first we should accept that maybe we finish we are supposed too now, but that does not stop the hunger for title success at Anfield.

Benitez is done at Liverpool and like other good managers that tried before him, will walk away having done a pretty good job but unless someone gives us that league we are left feeling empty and failed once more.

And yes, we are no further forward unfortunately

He hardly "won " those cups. Going up to pick them up isn't quite the same  :D

He didn't play in the '92  final either mate.

He played in 95 though.

He was still got the medals, therefore he won them in my eyes. :D

And I think he had the best idea, pretend to be injured all year then pick up the trophies. Harry Kewell has the same idea :D

No one can tell you exactly how Rafa will win the league Saint, but many of us pro-Rafa people feel that he's the best chance we have at the title and we see improvements in the league every year.  If a new manager comes in it would take him a miracle to win the title because he has to compete with guys like Fergie and Wenger and the superior spending power of Chelsea and Man U.  All I'm saying is that bringing in a new manager will probably not bring us any closer to the title because there are 3 other top teams who are constantly improving.

You see improvements every year. Where's the improvement from Houllier coming 4th, to Benitez coming 5th the following year as well as ending 37 points behind? Where's the improvement of coming 9 points behind to 21? Where's the improvement on last year?

We haven't improved, we're going backwards.

The fair comparison would be to use both managers' first seasons - not one's first, and the other's last.

Ergo:

Houllier's first season - 7th.

Benitez's first season - 5th and a Champions' League.

Further to this, Chelsea's financial dominance wasn't apparent whilst Houllier was in charge, which means he was able to get 2nd with relative ease, and a points total of 80, less than the total Rafa had to get to finish 3rd.

Lando I think you'll find Houllier's first FULL season was 98/99 not the 97/98 which was the season we finished 7th. It was after the time Evans/Houllier had shared the management.

Secondly, Ambrovich arrived at Chelsea at the start of the 03/04 season, when Houllier WAS our manager so it obviously was there while he was in charge. And if you cast your memory back far enough, you'll no doubt remember that the first game Ambrovich was owner of Chelsea was against Liverpool. Remember now? I'll make it even clearer for you, Veron (remember him ex Man United) scored the winner for Chelsea. OK?

Well the major improvement this year was is our impressive away form, if our home form was the same we'd still be up there challenging.  I don't know what happened to our home form but next year if we improve it we'll be challenging for the title.

Well it's not an improvement, because we've had to sacrifice our home form to accomadate our away form. It's no improvement, because it's still 1 bad form to 1 good form.
