There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

nothing wrong with the statement... very normal for managers to say this kind of thing... remember when houllier criticised gerrard publicly and from then onwards he just went from strength to strength... jeez let the manager do his job....

If he doesn't step it up , it's the end of the line for him , honestly can't see him sticking around for another year , and we need the money , not happy to see him go but after his first 2 seasons , he's been a average player

I think you have to be very sure before you sell a player of Xabi's class that you arn't going to regret it further down the line.

I have always thought that we needed to sell one of our midfielders, and Xabi was the obvious choice for me, but now we have sold Sissoko it becomes a more difficult decision. If it meant we could improve in another area where we are not as strong I would say it would probably be a good idea, if it meant that the balance sheet looks a little better for H&G I would say no chance.

Rafa is only saying what a lot of us have been saying for a while.

As a Xabi admirer i am actualy made up Rafas said this to him so hopefuly now well see him step up to the plate and get the old Xabi back. In my opinion an on song Xabi is an assett to us an theres no way he should be sold.
Best passer of the ball weve got and at the moment thats what were missing.

I agree... I have said it's an option to consider under the CIRCUNSTAMCES (no financial backing apparently), but still isn't my first choice the selling of a quality player.

Basically the questions to answer are "What if Mascherano is injured?" and "Can play Mascherano all the cup, CL and the league games?"

Quite simply you can't think of Lucas for the same role, and while Steve can do it, it's not his favourite nor his best role, he's more a centre-mid. If you give him most of the defensive midfield task, then you don't use him at 100% as could be seen in the english squad in the summer.

We DO need a quality squad. In my ideal situation Alonso should stay, and we should buy the quality we lack with departure's like the one of Sissoko.

I think Xabi should still be playing ahead of Lucas, possibly alongside Masch With Stevie On the Right...DO NOT LET HIM LEAVE.

erm mind if I don't LOL

In a weird, very very twisted way, it's good to have you back Lando

I actually like Rafa coming out and saying stuff like this but don't just save it all for Alonso, he should be naming 90 % of the bloody team  :D

There's nothing wrong with what Rafa said, Alonso is competing against the strongest group of players in our squad, they'll all be be up against it to prove themselves. Especially Alonso, because Mascherano's been very consistent, and Lucas is developing into a tidy little player.

I certainly don't think we should be looking to sell the guy, but as Sabre said under the CIRCUNSTAMCES (  :D  ), it has to be considered albeit loosely, as an option.
