smaller clubs haven't a chance in hell of ever expanding themselves to become a big club themselves.

Red...You are so right with this.. Look at ajax...before Ajax was a big Club (for me it is still a big club ofcourse :;): ) But since the players get payed more in other teams they leave so fast.
We won lots...But that time they they didnt get paid this crazy prices.
Now they all leave so soon (Look like Babel)
Oh well...they say this is called...football:(

Cryff left Ajax even though they had won three Euro cups in a row - why ? money

Van Bastan left for Milan

Football has always been like that but it is worse now.

1980s/90s golden era? 1982 world cup was poor, 86 great, 90 terrible,94 okay, 98 fairly poor. players like Lee Chapman got to be the regular centre forward in a title winning team.

David Speedie anyone?

Dont be knocking the 90 world cup, it was my 1st full world cup and is still dear to me. I used my "duel nationality" to great effect as Kevin Sheedy (bluenose I know) scored against England and as David O'Leary put the little Rep of Ireland into the World Cup Quarter finals ,were they put up a galliant fight against the hosts, going down to a Toto Squilacci (remember him?) goal. And it had Maradona drag a team as bad as anyone had ever saw to the final

Sadly i think this year was as close as Northern Ireland will get to qualifying for a major tourney for a while. I remember very little of Mexico 86, bit too young. thank God for Nostalgia

You should have seen Maradonna in 1986, get a video of it somewhere. As great as the 1990 Maradonna was , the 1986 one was even better. Best player I've ever seen by a mile.

international managers get nowhere near that. only the clueless f#ckwits that are the fa in this country would ever dream of paying their international manager that sort of money.

lippi was on about half a million when he won the world cup ffs.
